Winter beach, is it a good idea?

I was thinking about the 3 hour drive to the beach today but I was wondering if that would be a bad idea. Anyone ever do this and have any luck?

It would be a chance to be outside, away from the crowds, in the fresh air, enjoying the thrill of what might be there. Even if you don't find a thing how can that be a bad idea?

Well my wife wanted to go to the beach so we packed a lunch and took off. When we arrived there were probably 20 machine swingers in sight. Even being cold it was crowded so we found an empty spot and went to digging. The wife was enthused when the clad keep popping up, but when the chain with a gold tint came out of the hole she decided it was time to buy her a detector. The chain is 20" long and has ITALY 14 k stamped in it. But it is magnetic and looks somewhat silver. I haven't cleaned it up very well yet due to the fact she won't give it back. She will take it to a jewler to check it, if it is something I will post a picture. Now that she wants a detector I don't know if I should upgrade my Landstar for me or just buy her something lower line. If anyone has ideas on a little bit lower line or a higher line your advice would be helpful. What a great day the winds were not to bad, just enough to bother me with my cheap ear phones. I guess they will be upgraded for sure.

Hi !

I've been beach hunting for 15 years now, and can assure you, but you noticed for yourself, that winter is a good season to sweep on the sand ! I found my best jewels in the winter !
As what a second buy concerns, I would suggest a bh somewhere between the Tracker IV and the QDII (that includes the lone star, too), as those models are slightly lighter to handle for our spouses. You can still swap coils when needed.

Hi oddjobbob, I've found my best finds during winter. Less compitition, less morons, = peace and quiet. HH regards Nugget.:detecting:

Compadre is what I use most of the time.

Jewelry in trashy areas is something I
spend a lot of time doing.

I did my first fresh water beach hunting
this winter.

I had slim pickings at 9 out of ten of them.

But one paid off with a diamond ring and gold.
