Winter Beach hunting with the Sovereign GT. When , where, and why?

Hello all,
I got my Sovereign GT a few months back and have not been out to much with it. So i have the itch to get out regardless of how cold it gets.
I was thinking or should I say wondering if there is any benefit to detecting the saltwater beaches in the winter? what method as far as when and where i should search for some gold jewelry. Do any of you enjoy detecting the beaches in the winter? any comments would be appreciated.
Thanks
Jason

I hunt the beaches pretty much all winter.......or until the ice build up in the sand reaches the water at low tide. I have hunted with an Excal and gotten lucky during the winter months. I just bought a GT and added a WOT coil to it for more surface coverage at low tide. The machine is awesome on the wet sand. You will like it. I do not bother with the dry sand to much only because there is so much aluminum trash and there are a lot of dry sand hunters........the wet sand on the other hand is more productive for treasures. Do not expect to find gold the first time out as it depends on sand conditions and how deep your targets are burried. With each turn of the tide, currents and storms, your level of sand will change. Often it is best to hit the beach right after a good nor'easter that has lasted a couple of days.......all kinds of good stuff included old Spainish Reales will show up on northern beaches. Do your research on shipwrecks, old hotels and old casinos that have since disappeared.

i have only really started getting into the water on 9/25. since then i have gotten these pickings at beaches that were already hit during the warmer weather.

Since I only live ten minutes from the beach, I can hunt there a lot. I don't like summers too much as the sand buildup is high and pretty much stays that way around here (Folly Beach and other Charleston, SC area beaches). Plus the crowds are really thick. Only recent drops will normally be found in summer but these can be good. Since I don't like the crowds, I will only hunt in early AM or very late PM. But winter is really great. I love the solitude of a deserted beach and the storms are constantly moving sand around. Biggest problem for me is that Folly does too much renourishment and that can kill things. But try as they might, mother nature still stays ahead of them. But there are numerous beaches close enough for me to hunt.

I have hunted many times in the winter and have had good luck. I would like to know what set up you use with your Sovereign on the beach. I just got a sovereign yesterday and will be using it Sunday.
