Winging it is the Key!!!!

I got out early this morning and headed for the lake, but not without stopping at my favorite taco joint for a couple of tender beef fajita tacos. I haven't been able to eat meat in about a month but after my minor surgery last week to correct my swallowing problem, I'm good to go for awhile. And OMG, was it ever good!!! Anyway, I'm sure most of you know we're in just about the worst drought ever here in Texas, so I snapped a few pics, just to show you how bad it is. The one good thing about it is it gets me into areas that I couldn't hunt when there's water due to all of the rocks and boulders. OK, OK, here's some pics!!

Let's start with the boat ramp into.......nowhere!!

And a sailboat that won't be sailing anywhere for awhile!!!

And a couple of pics of folks' private boat slips...done slipped right down to the bottom!!!

So here's the gang!! I had both AT Pros, but only used the AT Gold today since she's just back from the Garrett Hospital!!

I must say, the AT Gold is a whole different ballgame from the ATP. I worked the few hours in the Disc 1 mode and the ATG has it's own language, similar to the ATP but different in a lot of ways. Targets just sound different so I got some learning to do here. I love that little 5 x 8 coil. I had no problem with bottlecaps at all, just iron grunts when you go over one. It was much easier moving around in the rocky stuff you saw in the above pics too. Now, if my old bad ankles could just hold up as well!! Garrett did a great job of getting the ATG back in greaat shape and that little beast will hunt!! I hope I can get up country soon and meet up with Todd Pickens and look for some real gold. I had to take 'er easy today and curtail my hunt, still not up to full speed yet, but soon I'll be back to the old Big Cat Daddy!!

Here's the loot for the day!! A good many coins (I just cherry picked, shame upon me) and A Wing and a Key!!

Again, many thanx to Garrett for getting my AT Gold fixed and even repairing my Grey Ghost 'phones with a new Garrett plug...at no charge...can't beat that!!

Things are big in Texas , but the lack of water is crazy. U gotta like it when U can hunt some virgin ground, but that drought looks it was rough on the local economy. Good food 4 sure in Texas, hard to swallow that food slow , I love it. can't beat it .

I've used the GOLD exclusively since I got it and today I tried to use the AT Pro and it just doesn't sound right. The old gals got over 1000 hours on her and she's headed to Texas for a vacation and lobotomy/upgrade come late December.

May I ask what the VDI is showing on your quarters? I am running about 1-2-3 numbers higher than on the AT Pro.......88-89-90 on quarters, 83-84 on dimes.

Nickels if shallow and dry 52-53-54.......if wet .........all bets are off:rofl:...... dig any series that flashes a 53 in it:thumbup:

Our lakes around here look just like your lakes the only problem I have is the LCRA doesnt like metal detecting and they have made it illegal in the lakes in their jurisdiction. Bunch of BS if you ask me.
I am ready to prospect, just not next weekend. I am doing a guided hog hunt the 4th. 5th. And 6th.
but I should be avaliable after that. Here is a pic of some Llano River color I got a couple of weeks ago.

Nice hunt!:detecting:Good clad haul!:clapping:Cool pics!:thumbup:Thanks for sharing!:biggrin:Happy Hunting!:)

The LCRA has made it hard on detectorists with their antiquity law. I realize they are trying to protect the Native American sites from poachers, but banning all searching in their parks is ridiculous. I'll be glad to leave all the flint arrowheads I might find with my dectector!! What a joke!! Not only are we banned from LCRA parks but State Parks, TPWD parks, Travis County Parks and Austin City parks, all using the same "logic". Luckily, Corps of Engineers Parks, privately run lake parks and a lot of small city parks on lake shores are still available to be hunted but they are very few. Some of the local clubs and WWATS are trying to get the rules changed, but they are not having just a whole lot of luck changing the narrow minds of the ruling boards.

Nice color!! I'm really looking forward to seeing a little of that with my own two eyes!!

Hog Hunt, huh!! Just make sure you don't shoot any Blind Hogs!!
