Windows 7 for Mac

unearth

Member
Any forum members using a Mac with a Microsoft 7 windows program installed? If so, which window's 7 program are you using? I would like to run my eXchange program on my Mac so I don't have to keep bothering my wife by using her PC. I have the Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac already.
Thanks

I was always under the impression that you had to set it up to either boot to Windows or Apple. As long as it had the Intel processor it would run. Someone will probably smack me for talking but I'll watch and learn if need be... :D

Guvner..

I am a CTX newbie and a Mac Computer user. I purchased Windows 7 online and used Mac's native Bootcamp Utility Program. Very easy to install with Bootcamp and Xchange2 downloaded easily and now I am up and running and able to download patterns, etc. The only downside with Bootcamp is that you have to shut down
the Mac every time you want to use Xchange2. Only a minor problem since I only use Windows for the Xchange2 app. Apparently, with Parallels, you do not have to shut down since both Windows and OS X can run at the same time.

I use parallels 8 and have windows 8 installed on it. you then have the ability to run windows and osx side by side. I am very a happy with the setup.

Funny, before I bought my CTX, I checked with Minelab and they told me that Windows 8 was not supported by Xchange2??? Must have changed recently. Yes, the parallels is a more efficient, but costly way to go.

If you are a Mac user you can use Parallels and install a copy of Windows 7 on it. You will need a valid Windows 7 product key but once setup you can run it as a virtyual machine under the Mac OS with no problem. I personally use VM Fusion but both products work equally well. I recently installed Xchange 2 and is seems to work ok in the virtual environment.

Thanks all for your advice. I got windows 7 parallels for mac and windows 7 home version. I'll get them installed and see how it goes.

hmm, i disnt even check before i bought my ctx. i did however try to install it with the supplied disc and it installed but when i went to hook my ctx up it said i had to update. i did the update and it wouldnt install. i then went straight to minelabs site and downladed exchange2 from there. it installed and my ctx connects and gets the icon and seems to work properly. maybe i should try moving a program over to it and make sure but it seems to be fine

Yes indeed Bbigboar, you may not be able to download patterns and modes. The manual explicitly states that Windows 8 is not supported. Acording to the xchange2 manual, windows 7 , Vista and XP are supported.. Hope you can work it out.

everything works perfectly. thank goodness. i also did a google search and it looks like others are also. one person said he talked to minelab and was told officially it is not supported but after doing some unofficial testing it seems to work fine...

thank goodness, i am getting used to 8 now and didnt want to revert back...
