Hello, I am new to detecting, and I am getting into relic hunting. Mostly Civil War. I have a Winbest by Barska Elite edition. I bought it used, and don't know much about it. Any help would be great. Thanks.

what you have is a very basic machine!..........thats ok! my first machine was a bountyhunter ??? $98.00 my second was a bountyhunter 3300, found a large cent with it! third was a fisher f75, all within one year.

your machine is a single frequency vlf(very low frequency) metal detector. you might benifit from a site called "how stuff works" and searching "metal detector" on that site.
good luck.

Thanks seeker41. I will look up that site. Only payed $50 for it. It seems to work ok, I just have to learn what disc/notch is. I have tried to set the sens so that it won't tone on an aluminum can, but can't figure it out. When it's set that low, it seems like it won't tone on anything else. I guess it will all come with experience.

Thanks 6666, I will try that. I have been digging mostly all my targets when I had the disc/notch on to learn my machine. I will try the all metal, and see how I do.

dt, I started out with a bounty hunter - just a basic metal detector - it got me hooked on detecting, now I have a variety of detectors, an no where near enough time to get out as much as I would like. But, be ready to learn more about history than you ever thought you would be interested in. Same is true for your local area, family background, maps of a lot of different areas, history of coins, relics, or just about anything else you find! Good luck, and stick with it, you will likely have a blast.

Thanks tin fin. I went out for about 3 hours yesterday, but didn't find anything other than an old can top, and a 9mm shell case. I am having a blast, just can't wait to find something worth posting on here.
