Will this equipment do the job?

the Swede

Member
I am now finally ready, after months and months of reading and studying the many a vast "secrets" of metal-detecting, to order my equipment which I exclusively intend to use for finding lost jewellery (hopefully gold!) in the moderately salty waters of the Baltic Sea.
But I would like to make one

Swede, you should post this in the Beach and Water detecting Forum too. Anymore, this forum seems like it's dying. Deftinatly not what it was a year ago.

Thanks, bottlebum, will do... done!

I would add to your list a life jacket or something along that line. It be look different, but when you accidentally step out into water you thought to be shallow becomes deeper than you think, It gets really challenging. I have herd too many reports of people drowning in shallow waters while metal detecting. Better to be alive than a story in the News.

Swede some things I would change are:

1. get the 10" coil for the Excal II. Better coverage, depth and you can always turn the sens down if you think mineralization is going to be a problem.

2. a backup battery is always a good idea if you can afford it. make sure and get the nimh battery and not the one pictured.

3. I would get a mesh finds pouch with a velcro sealable opening or drawstring opening. The pouch pictured is for land use.

also a couple of spare washers for the coil is a good idea and a few spare plastic/nylon bolts for the coil.

good luck!

Maybe change the waders for a surfers wet/drysuit, searching at max depth a wave could fill em up with water

*#01 Thanks for the info, Gulf Hunter!
You are welcome!

*#02 I guess it is the 145-mm for the Excalibur II, right? Was actually planning on getting the Short Hipmount Kit, but I have changed my mind after reading several positive posts about the straight shaft on this forum. But is the original shaft really that unbalanced?
The stock shaft is a piece of junk and hard to hunt with. It is like swinging a paddle through the water. It will woller out and get lose in about a month of hunting. You will fatique from swinging against the flop, been there, done that! The Lightning rod is an EXCELLENT choice, imo. NO HIP MOUNTING! It will be suicide eventually water hunting. I own both the 800 & 1000 and the ONLY thing the 1000 does better than the 800 is coverage. If there is ANY doubt about how trashy the area is, the 800 would be the BEST choice.

*#03 Are these the headphones everybody is talking about on this forum? Would it be possible to have Minelab hard-wire these before shipping? The Gray Ghost Underwaters are the ones I selected too, EXCELLENT choice, imo. Have Minelab install the ikelite connectors, DO NOT HARDWIRE THEM IN. Have Minelab also install the lkelite connectors onto the stock Koss, as well, in the event you have a failure (you will I already have). Don't worry, DP has been great about it, EXCELLENT warranty.

*#04 Found something which looks like this one with my

Swede, I believe that you have gotten everything figured out. I only wished I had an extra sealed waterproof battery backup. I wasn't near an electrical outlet for a charging period and only had the double AA battery pod available, so that ended my water detecting.I also don't recommend the waders ,because they will fill up with water and maybe a Loch Ness Monster and then you could say goodbye to your Willey.. Hope you have Great Success in the Surf--Goldnugget--gosports1@aol.com Charlotte,NC
