will this challange e-trac

Interesting concept, but I worry about wireless and remote control.Sometime simple and less complicated is better.Electronics is my profession and like hearing about new technology. Thanks for posting.

WOW~!taht is a great idea wireless,we will have to see how it performs.i think minelab could incorporate thisidea going full wireless, also i thiught about them going with a carbon fiber shafts and coils that would make them half the weight they are now.i am not complaining just thinking it would be cool.IMO

I like the idea of being able to upgrade the software. I thought that's what we would be able to do with the E-Trac.

Finally.
Somebody has finally built a high quality LIGHT WEIGHT UNIT!!!!! I only hope that others like Minelab finally follow.
Mick Evans.

I like the idea of being able to upgrade the software.and i wish for the E-trac to have this option and
the control box to be water proof to some degree, i don't care for wireless earphones is more trouble and more to go wrong,

Can someone say interference, lag and why? Did the wires weigh that much? Yeah it would be neat to just turn on and go but it just seems like a whole lot of problems waiting to happen. See, if something is wireless and not hard wired, you would never know if you were dropping signals. How many of you had a short in a wire on a coil or headphones and how long did it go unnoticed. Do like the fold up Startrek ship looking design though. So much for a Sun Ray in line probe.

Do you use a mobile phone, Gps, wireless router for internet, fly model planes or cars, remote sensor burgler alarm in house, or even a remote control of any description? Wireless has come a long way in the last few years, copper is expensive and fails

Will have to to see, but I agree with you on this digitrich. One of the first things I read and I quote,

"With regard to actual underwater detecting, this is only possible at very shallow depths, for example in a stream where the coil will only be immersed by a few centimetres. This is not due to any waterproofing problem, but rather because the wireless radio link cannot pass through a greater volume of water."

I can for-see problems with this "wireless radio link" even when not used in water. These kinds of things are very susceptible to interference and Electro-Magnetic Interference EMF.
