Will the "Ultimate" Gray Ghost phones work ok with the Explorer?

Hi, The reason I was considering the "Ultimate" G. Ghosts is because I heard they have a volume limiter and that would allow me to use them with my Whites G.M.T and the Explorer both. (I think) Thanks a lot for any help with this matter. Bill

with all machines, except maybe the nautilus' they have special headphones for them.. as long as the headphones have a mono/stereo switch they will work on the whites and minelabs

or the sunray stand to use 1/4 inch jacks on the XS models

Bill,
No problem with the Explorer as those are what I use on mine.
However, while these are good headphones, I don't believe the limiter circuit really does anything on the Explorere as, if I'm not mistaken, the Explorer has a built in limiter circuit, At any rate, in my case, the limiter in the headphones doesn't seem to make any difference whether it's switched in or out.
HH ... Gord.

they make a difference with the Sov, but dont seem to have any affect with the explorer

The switch that allows you to use Gray Ghost headphones with different detectors is the Compatibility switch. This is a Mono/Stereo switch. G/G Ultimates have this switch as well as a limiter switch (on/off). Many Explorer owners do not find much difference in volume with the limiter switch off. However, some do. I presume this is due to hearing and or understanding the volume control setting on the Explorer. The NDT's are preferred by many Explorer owners, for several reasons; they can be ordered with either the 1/8" jack, 1/4" jack or one of each. To use any 1/4" headphone with the Explorer XS, you'll need the Sun Ray Jack adapter/Stand as mentioned by Jim. The new EX-II has a 1/4" jack. Hope this helps. Good hunting, David @ Dixie

They will work fine. However there is a slight impedance differnce between the Gray Ghost and the Explorer. The Explorer puts out 100 ohms the Gray Ghost, Killer Bees, Timber Wolf and most detecting headphones are 150 ohm. You will notice a slight decrease in volume level as compared to the Koss UR-30s (100 ohm) that ship with the EX II. But the audio quality on the Ghost's and Killer Bees far surpass the Koss UR-30s even though the volume is a touch lower.
