will the salt and sand beach start to eat up gold if it's there to long?or if it's next to iron?

i foung a ring and looks like something ate it ....must be fake
 
If the ring was sized at any time the gold solder will be eaten away faster then then the ring. This is the reason some Detectors will give a double beep over such a target. This is also the reason I dig everything on the beach. steve
 
just take a look at some of the old 10K gold rings that the gang in Florida Posts and you can see for yourself.
