Will people be trying to hunt down certain serial numbers once the Malaysia plant opens?

I plan on eventually getting an E-trac, but I'm concerned about what will happen when the Malaysia plant opens for business. I remember when First Texas took over Fisher, and many people started complaining that the CZ's were no where near as good as the older CZ's made in Los Banos. This is still true, as the Los Banos CZ's are highly sought after and sell for good amounts. I just hope when the current stock of Ireland made detectors is exhausted, we don't hear reports that the new Minelabs don't get as much depth, or have more quality control issues, etc.

What do you think?

My E-Trac I've been using the last few months was manufactured in Malaysia. It does have a weird flaw, I've been digging to China on all my deep coins. :bouncy:

The only gripe that I have with it is that it isn't manufactured in the US. So far it works great, goes deep, discriminates well. I haven't taught it yet how to ask permission at the front door though. Working on it.

After all Minelab has had time since first release to get a lot of feedback and may very well use it to their/our advantage

Rich, can you post of pic of the Made in Malaysia form your E-Trac? I haven't heard of any being in country yet.

I've had my Malaysian E Trac for 2 weeks now and have hunted 14 hours with it. Most notable finds are Barber Quarter, Barber Dime and 3 Mercury Dimes. If you knock on my front door with $1500 cash trying to buy it you will be leaving with your money.:minelab::please:

From what I was told about the Malaysia machines, the only thing that has changed is the machines are being assembled in Malaysia. All the components including the electronics are still being manufactured from the same high quality companies that have been contracted to make them prior to Malaysia.

Malaysia is simply just a (cheap on labor) assembly plant.

Tomorrow will only be my third session with my new E-trac -- had a Safari for a year. It was assembled in Malaysia and the quality of construction is excellent. Fit and finish are A-1. Nothing to worry about, judging from my example. Just ordered the Stealth X-5 because I want to concentrate on the most trash-laden locations in the local parks. 11" coil too big for this purpose.

I got my E Trac a couple of weeks ago. Says made in Malaysia. It's working great. No problems so far.

Dan.

I have recieved and sold several Malaysian assembled machines, nothing to note yet as far as quality on anything. All are producing for there owners great finds. As stated above the assembly is done there no other componets are mfgd. there. No price reduction either just a business move. Hardrock

Thanks Phil, I'm glad to hear that the move hasn't hurt the quality of the machine.
