Will new 2500 chip help?????

Wonder if an upgrade to the new chip and coil for the GTI 2500 will help me here in Kentucky. Been thinking about it. Any input anyone.

The new chip will only help you if the mineralization is such that the machine will go over into over-load signal when the coil is placed on the ground. If the ground is less mineralized, and the coil does not over-load, you gain nothing. That's how it was explained to me at Garrett. :)

If you ain't in a big hurry I'm going to have one installed on my 2500 then report about it on the forum. The chip is designed to make the 2500 perform better in highly mineralized areas. It was conjured up at the request of the nuggethunters in Australia. If that's what you are confronted with then it should do the trick. I think it's only about forty bucks.

Hi all, been a while since I posted, oil patch has had me running raggedddd.
Been reading posts to catch up & come across this post on the new chip for the GTI 2500.
If I may give quick update on summer Yukon trip, got some coins & a few goodies, but no gold. Went to buddies claim, but apparently the gold thats mined in the area is about 15-30Ft. under ground! Then on top of that it rained all but half a day we were there. Was still worth going, as now I know what's there, including an old cabin.
You guy's who have been detecting a long time are probably chuckling about now, knowing a green horn user of the GTI 2500 must pay your dues on know - how -to...
Which brings me to my added comment on hot rocks. I thought, well I'll check out the Dome above Dawson City Yukon, it was like some one placed a plate of steel under ground. Was one continual overload!
At least the scenery made up for my detecting disappointment, hot rocks all over.
While winter is here I figure should get the chip put in, so I sent my detector into Garrett.
Once I get my MD back I'll be practicing, practicing, practicing and the try the Yukon again some year.

happy hunting all

Dave in GP Canada

Glad to see you back. Keep us posted on how your 2500 performs with the new chip. Maybe it will melt that steel plate.

Hi again,
This new chip was designed on my request for Australian soil conditions.
I worked with the engineer, doing the tests in Australia.
We can now place the GTI's and GTPx coils on the highest mineralised soils that we have encountered so far and no overload is encountered unless a large target is encountered.
These units can now be used in the high mineralised soils in the goldfields, where previously they couldn't.
It makes a real difference.
One thing to remember, if the soils are to highly mineralised, you may find the ID to be incorrect, but this is the same with all VLF motion detectors.
The new coil is a bit more stable than the older style coil. It doesn't tend to give signals if it hits the ground when searching.
Hope this info will be of some help to others.
All the best from Down Under.

Just got in from 2 day trip about 1Hr. from NWT,
thanks Phil for the confirmation, looking forward to trying 2500 with new chip.

Hi Phil
I've been using the GTI for a few months now and found one problem that this chip might solve unless, you have another theory into the problem?

When searching using 'All metal' and 'Treasure Talk' and come across (usually) Iron, the unit goes into overload but with a difference.
Its not the overload sound of being to close to the object (sounds like a mini machine gun) but a noise that continues for around 5-7 seconds (and moved 2-4 steps/swings),its almost like everything is trying to work at the same time and then returns to normal with the speech of 1 c @ 3 inches (has been different depths and sizes too)......This is NOT heard without headphones. I've taken the machine back to the shop and he hadn't heard it before either........

I've had the main supplier of Garrett units here in England listen to it as well and again, he had never heard it before......hes written to Garrett HQ but had no reply after 2 months....:(

Am I the only one with this problem and have a duff machine or does this happen to others?

This is very hard to explain through typing or phone call and is only through listening to it that you can understand......

I hope you or someone else can shed some light on this matter.
Cheers
Marc
