Will Minelab upgrade existing X-terras?

Sure would like to have mine upgraded. If it wasn't too costly I would do it in a heartbeat.

. . . . . . . Minelab and other companies do not want to upgrade piece parts and then wonder what is and is not covered under warranty. The answer to the same question on Explorer, GPX and Sovereign upgrades has been "No, upgrades are not offered."

Can see their point . . . . . . if Ford came out with a new truck, would they offer to upgrade their old ones to the new specifications?

The only times I've seen companies offer "upgrades" is when there is something wrong with the model on the market, such as the F75 and T2. Not knocking them, they are good detectors. But there is nothing wrong with the Xterras, so no need for an "upgrade".

Of course not. Minelab, like any other company, is in the business to make money. This year its the X-7O5 and in about another year or so the X-710.. They expect everyone to want to keep up with the Smiths thus invest in a new machine. Makes good business sense I guess. For me the X-Terra-70 does the job and I'm happy. Let the Smiths of the world do their thing and I'll do mine. TomB

I'm not so sure anything was really wrong with the T2, F75 as much as the company tweaked them a little in response of what the end users..You, me, and others wanted their detectors to do..IE balance on a salt water beach..etc.. A few basic little problems like battery connections and waterproofing isn't really a lack of abilities of the machine..More a convenience thing. Same with some of the Great first run Xterras a few minor issues that was addressed immediately by Minelab.

You are correct in that there were no "upgrades" to the original X-Terras. The "battery issue" was resolved when users pointed out to Minelab that they were having shut-off problems. Although the specifications used in the original design were correct, Minelab restructured the contact tolerance and resoved the issue. And, in response to those who found the lower rod too long, they offered a shortened version.
I remember the first T2 I had required a software upgrade just to stabilize the detector. Ironically, FT deemed it necessary to charge either $50 or $60 for that first "software upgrade". I can't remember which. And, there have been quite a few additonal software upgrades implemented to correct display problems or correct a performance issue with the detector. (e.g. R5 to R6) The F75 changes were more ergonomic related than electronic. Seals, grip, battery compartment, etc. However, again, FT charged $50 for the F75 upgrade. The F70 required a "software rewrite" shortly after it made it's appearance. The rewrite was required to alllow the detector to maintain the GB settings after turning the detector off. And, it was done at no-charge to the customer. Just going from memory..... HH Randy

I don't see a point in upgrading from the X-70. Back-light?..........use a headlight or torch if you want to go night detecting, issue solved. One extra pattern? Shrugs I'm not gonna loose sleep over that.............................Pinpoint fixed and sizing, don't need it and a 3 yr warranty, good call :minelab:. All in all each to there own I guess.
Cheers!

I had one of the original F75's and it was built like a Walmart Bounty Hunter. Cheap and flimsy. Had no problems with the software though. When I got a T2 last year many changes had been made-a much sturdier unit than the original F75. Now all F75's are made better. Shame to have a good detector that won't put up with a little backwoods detecting. The Xterras were always built tough. Even today, pick one up and compare it to a brand new F75. World of difference. Since I pay for my detectors with my hard earned money, I'll tell it like it is as best I can. I'm not a shill for anyone, and have absolutely no brand loyalty. Why would I? I don't own stock in any of these companies. And I fly neither a Fisher or Minelab flag.

I, like you, tell it like I experienced it and my experience with the F75 still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. However, I have been nothing but happy with my X-70.

Any time I read someone knocking an Xterra I immediately know that they know nothing about detecting. It's like any tool. You either know how to use it or don't take the time to learn. I see all of these videos of people demoing a detector and telling how good it is. For what, a free detector? It would take a lot more than a $1000 detector to get me to tell a bunch of lies about build quality, performance, etc. Have a little pride.

AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!:clapping::thumbup:

Sure didn't mean to start anything by asking what I thought was a simple question. I was not knocking Minelab in any way. My X70 is my main machine. I have never dealt with the Minelab company (which speaks well for them). I have never had any problems with my X70 which I bought used. Anyway, I got my answer. No.

Thanks to everyone.
