I'm Thinking of an Infinium for prospecting,So can anyone tell me if that Detector has an Iron Check that works as good or better than say an MXT Pro..and will hot rocks fool it?? Help I'm Stuck!!

A fantastic prospector...not as goos as Minelab 5000 but it aint $5000 either. Ignors 90% of hot rocks...iron check works well for a pulse induction machine.

OK, Here goes nothing.

The Iron Check on the Infinium is designed to separate gold from iron, it is not able to possitively separate iron from other metals with any certanty but it will give you some clues as to the possible TID.

If your signal is a STRONG HI/Lo in Normal and is equally strong HI/LO in Rev Disc then TID is likely to be rusty iron.
If your signal is a WEAK HI/LO in Normal and equally WEAK HI/LO in Rev Disc then TID is likely rusty iron.
If your signal is a STRONG HI/LO in Normal and the signal disappears in Rev Disc then the TID is probably a steel bottle cap.
If your signal is a STRONG LO/HI in Normal and equally STRONG LO/HI in Rev Disc then TID is likely to be a tent peg or coat hanger or some similar clean iron item.
The same applies for WEAK LO/HIs.

If there is a significant reduction in signal level when selecting Rev Disc then it is a good idea to check the target.

Silver can be LO/HI..LO/HI or LO/HI..HI/LO in normal and Rev Disc but it will never be HI/LO in Normal and LO/HI in Rev Disc at the same time.

IRON FROM GOLD.

Small gold is generally HI/LO in Normal and a much weaker HI/LO in Rev Disc and large nuggs say above 15 gm or so will more often be LO/HI in Normal and a reduced HI /LO in Rev Disc. Natural GOLD IS NEVER LO/HI IN REV DISC.

So, if your gold field signal is a STRONG LO/HI in Normal and a reduced level HI/LO in rev Disc then your TID is probably gold
If the signal is a Strong LO /HI in Normal and a strong LO/HI in Rev Disc then TID is likely not gold.

If signal is a weak HI/LO in Normal and a reduced level HI/LO in Rev Disc then TID MAY be gold but could also be small rusty iron.

As far as gold is concerned: Any target that signals HI/LO in Rev Disc at a reduced signal level to that in Normal should always be recovered no matter what the Normal mode signal is. This is the signal for gold and is the least likely signal for iron.

Rev Disc is far from foolproof like any discriminator but I can guarantee that if you walk away from a hi/LO tone in Rev disc you will be leaving gold in the ground a lot of the time.

Well said.......:garrett::detecting:
Yep, you guys can use all the iron discrimination you want while prospecting, whichever machine you're using. :wiggle:
Just leave that gold in the ground for the rest of us that dig every signal.:spin:
Happy Hunting!:)

Very good post Adrian!

Very clear details.

....when in doubt, like Metalhead said, dig it all!

Alan

Yes there is no doubt that those who recover all of their targets will go home with the most good stuff and probably with the sorest backs.
After you have dug several 3 foot deep holes just to find a horse shoe or axe head or old toilet cystern you start to wish your detector would TID at target depth. None of the ML PIs can do that.

The Infinium will, can and does.
So there you are out in the stinking heat of the desert swinging you bazillion dollar PI and it gives you a quiet broard deep target tone and you think, Bugger that sounds deep probably another bloody horse shoe, stuff it I am not digging another 3 foot hole in this iron hard ground just to wind up with a horse shoe or some piece of junk again. So you leave it and then another bloke comes along with an Infinium and finds the same target and says to himself, Hmmm I wonder if that is another bloody horse shoe?sounds pretty deep, I will just check that with the Rev Disc......... Well stuff me, it's a HI/LO tone I am going to have to check that one........ 3 hours of digging later and he is holding a 23 kg nug in his hands.

The key points in my previous post are that the Other brand PI operator new his target was metal but was too tired from digging junk to follow up the find and convinced himself that it was probably junk.
The Infinium operator new his target was Not Iron and could be gold, although he was equally tired as the first bloke , that bit of knowledge was enough to inspire him to dig another deep hole, which payed off.
