Will Be Detecting In Boston This Friday And Saturday

New member
Hello

The husband and I will be visiting Boston Massachusetts this weekend

We have scheduled detecting for Friday and Saturday and possibly Sunday morning

I am reaching out and hope to get some recommendations from Detectorists who have detected in the Boston area for recommendations

I am thinking public parks but would like to have some guidance and thoughts

Regards and Thank you

It would'nt surprise me if a lot of the places are off limits. National Register of Historic Places etc .. You are talking about almost 400 years of history. I grew up in the suburbs of Boston ... anyways good luck ... lots to uncover I'm sure. Check local laws before you take anyone's word ..

And if you feel you want to "check local laws" as McDave suggests, here's the way to do that: Look them up for yourself. For example, the city no doubt has a website, right? And on there, there will no doubt be the city codes, laws, rules, etc.... Probably even a sub-section specifically for the park's dept. And you can look up rules there (ie.: "no dogs allowed" "no alcohol", and so forth). If you see nothing specifically disallowing or prohibiting metal detectors, presto, I guess it must not be dis-allowed. Thus you will have "checked local laws".

This is preferable to asking a live person/desk-clerk. Because the danger in that is, you might get a "no" even though no actual rule exists.

Of course use due discretion. I mean, go at low traffic times, don't go during an archie convention, don't do obvious historic monuments, don't be in the middle of deep ones when lookie-lou/busy bodies are around, etc....

Thank You

I have not gotten alot of responses and tried several minelab Forums

Sadly, we have heard that Detectorists in Massachusetts DO NOT SHARE, Oh Well

either way i did look up rules for the Boston Commons, which is a series of Parks and the rules do not say no detecting

if all else fails I will print the rules and have them handy

regards and HHS

You will get arrested and your detectors and car will be seized. There is an army of rangers there. Detecting is off limits in Mass state parks and I think on Boston City Property too. Though they might allow it in some of the neighborhood parks. Try posting on NH Bob's forum there are some folks from Boston who hang out there who will know the ropes. I stick to NH as the rules in Mass are pretty strict on a lot of public properties there. They do allow detecting at some of the beaches such as Salisbury State Beach and Revere beach and once you get out of the metro area a little most towns allow it on their parks. Your pretty much SOL in downtown though as everything is a historic landmark or part of the federal park.

This seems the tone of what I am getting

What is NH Bob forum?

NH Bob's forum is a very busy regional forum that has a lot of folks from the North East on it. Out of respect to findmall I don't want to post the url but you can google it.

I would suggest looking for town commons. (Just NOT Boston Commons.) It's one thing I did when I lived there (up until last year).
