Will anyone give me an honest assessment on the performance of the AT Pro....

on a salt water beach.. Not interested in the dry sand... I'm talking wet sand to water's edge and surf.. Anybody in florida on the Atlantic side.. or NC OBX using one??

Thanks Mark ( ohio )

There are some videos of using the ATP in salt water on youtube if you havent seen them yet. Ive heard mixed results , all say it has trouble with salt water , but some apparently have made it work to some degree.

The handful of times I've had mine on a salt water beach it gets fairly chattery in the wet sand and out into the water. Up in the dry sand, of course, its great. For hunting salt water beaches a couple of times a year the A T works well enough for me because it is so good for turf hunting. If I had a steady diet, so to speak, of hunting salt water beaches I would want something geared more for beach hunting. HH jim tn

Sort of following the replies here to your question here Mark.....From what I've read, the general consensus is the AtPro is better than nothing, perhaps a bit better than most single freqs... might be able to be dialed in a bit to work salt water somewhat, but not really the proper tool if a guy was intent on one rig for salt water hunting for gold...Like Jimtn and OhChris said....I cannot remember seeing any vids on a guy pulling deepish gold on wet salt or the surfline with an AtPro...I'd be happy if it got 6" on a 4gr 14k in salt though...it will hit them all day long on fresh water beaches... .

On the fresh it will false at the surfline a bit if theres black sand around...a guy makes it work if that is all they have...If a guy was going full bore salt for gold, a guy needs the right tool...all this said, I'd like to give my Pro a go at the salt water, but have not the opportunity yet..I would think a guy could set it up to hit a mid sized gold ring at @ 6" at the surfline or wading though...interested in hearing from somebody that has tried it with some feedback and understanding with the settings and all in your specific area, since all salt beaches are a bit different...the AtPro is supposed to be a bit better than the AtGold on wet salt, I've read here...that surfline/wet sand stretch is a tough area to work with the waves breaking over the coil and inherent falsing and all, but it is a hot zone for gold if a guy can focus up and work it decently...

I have had horrible experiences with the AT Pro on wet saltwater sand. Others may have had better experiences, but, on some of the New England beaches, I believe the black sand is a little worse than eslewhere and makes the AT Pro almost unusable. Better than nothing, I suppose, but the setup has been: GB ~10-15, Sensitivity 3-4 bars showing, and slow even sweeps with the coil not touching the sand. I use an Excalibur for saltwater wet sand.

I tried hunting the Pro on wet salt, wading. I'm a little slow, so after 2 years, I got a Infinium. For the salty jobs. Now my AT Pro up on the dry , well it can contend with some of the best. A good hunter, with a little luck, well. For the money, the Pro is all I need.

Great Machine for relics and coinshooting, one of my best sellers.
Very difficult to ground balance at the beach in wet sand and the water . great for ponds and Lakes

The mineralization on the beach can make a huge difference.

I have used it on many beaches you have to ground balance a lot when you are moving to wet to dry and in between and turn the sensitivity down. If you want to go into the salt water you would be better off with a PI machine. Dry or moist sand the machine works well. I have used it in central and south California beaches as well as Oregon and Washington. I believe the sand is more mineralized than on the east coast.
