found this out of the spoil dirt i detected the compadre missed this nice point , this is a nice one i was just blown away when i seen something sticking out of the dirt that looked like flint and when i seen the notches i grabbed it and , WOO it was a nice point , i just would like to find out what kind of flint this is and where it came from

Hey Gunnar....

That is a nice little point, based on the size of it, isn't that what they call a bird point. I'm not knowledgeable on stone points and I've only found one, it was about the same size as yours. Nice find.

Nice find Gunnar......Z

that thing on the right is a shot shell , I was told they took deer down with this size point , I have found one 1/2 as big and it was nice that was probably a bird point , ,but it sure would take any bird down if hit

Nice stone pt. Gunnar. The so called bird pts. are actually arrow pts. that would have been used to take anything from a rabbit to buffalo. I have a large collection of stone artifacts but nothing from your neck of the woods. Afraid I can't help you with material type. I would think the pt. is at least 500 to 700 yrs old. Congratulations.

That excavation project is going real well for you and looks like a ball of fun! Congratulations on the arrowhead - Jimmy

That point is in great shape and well made. Way to go.

Nice find. It looks like it is made from chert. I agree that the small 'bird points' were used on large game as well. The Yahi and Maidu by me used small points, especially for bear as they felt they penetrated better. Amazing to hold history like that and wonder about who dropped it. The same fascination we get from detecting, at least for me anyways.

If it is pink, and flint, I'll opt for flint ridge flint.. Your neck of the woods sent copper down here and took the colored flint back up.. Found a piece in No Dak, and the other way in London (Ontario???).. There were trade routes all over this country.
