wildcat design change

i have a C and G Wildcat. a little beat up, but works, i acquired recently. It is heavy, 12 "AA" batteries. it has the small stacked coil, that does not read on top, so you can shove it under a ladder in a tot lot. Metered, which is new to me. is a vlf/tr machine. curved over handle a wrist breaker! i am either going to do some wild wiring and make a battery pack and arm cuff conversion, or hip mount it, or something. after reading the request for a lite new analog machine, maybe this might have to be made work, an old machine on a diet! i have a hip mount unit and a 2.2 lbs light weight amigo II that is my favorite because of weight and design. It is the straight shaft, arm cuff, side angled handle stick type. sweet to swing. any suggestions on design to follow, so i can see the meter? these old bones just cant take the weight. would trade for a cheap light weight machine , just not a chinese job. need a loaner anyhow. the old machine belonged to a prolific hunter, who passed on, and family sold off possessions. he really cleaned up with this unit. will look at all options, easy to deal with. live in georgia.

It's nice to hear that you're trying to revive the Wildcat. Your coil is a coaxial. Similar to the Jimmy Sierra(Applied Creativity) 6" Eliminator coil. I would suggest making it into a hipmount, but you'll need to come up with another upper pole and extension cord. I still see C & G metal detectors on Ebay quite a bit. I think this company started in the late 1970s and lasted up until 1982,even though Jack Gifford left in 1980.

ok straker, i guess it can be done. i have access to aluminum at friends scrap yard. might need an arm cuff, can make that too. i have a straight shaft Amigo II by Tesoro, small coil, like it better than a s handle. might be do able. i saw an old radio tech that used to hunt use phone cable and make a cord extention. worked good, just spliced and solder. the retune button is a problem, but can mount it somewhere on the box. design time!
