Wife went shopping, I went detecting

Let the wife off at the mall and went to a park near the mall and it had a tot lot. Have the DeLeon in the trunk with the 5.75" coil for such occasions. It was a good hunt 43 coins, 7 quarters, 9 dimes, 1 nickel, 26 pennies. I really am sold on the small coils. I have one for my xlt also and it really makes a difference.
By the way it was 26 degrees and had my down coat, 20 below zero boots, my heavy gloves and a wool hat. I must be getting nuts to think this is metal detecting weather. It only snowed one inch last night and not much stayed on the ground. Tomorrow supposed to be in the 40's so will be out on the beach. Thanks for reading... Jer

Hi zeekeys, as you might of read from my posts I have a Deleon ordered & on it's way. We have snow here and I am hoping for one more shot of good weather to try it out. Even though I haven't received the Deleon yet I am thinking of having either my wife or my mother getting me a small coil for it for my Christmas present. Do you get pretty good depth with the 5.75" and does it acurately ID coins. I had a small 4" coil for the Fisher F4 I had and I am sold on the small coils. Should a person get the 5.75" or the 4" coil for the Deleon. Thanks! Steve (upstate New York).

Wow 26 degrees. I thought I was a die hard. Way to go, if the temps. get anywhere near warm here without that cold wind I will be out swinging too. I just got a line on a old drive in, half is gone but who know what the other half yields.............................Keep looking down!

Hi Steve
Have read your posts on the f4 thanks for the info. Was thinking of getting one but decided to keep the DeLeon. I never used the DeLeon on anything but the beach before last week. Now I use it in the tot lots. I am using the 5.75" coil because when I saw how little the 4" was I thought it would take all day to do a tot lot. The 4" is smalllll. That is why I got the 5.75. I can not tell you about the depth on the coil because I have only dug about 50 coins with it and they were all shallow.
Steve the DeLeon is a good detector. I have found over 1400 coins this year with it. I have also found about 15 rings and all kinds of jewelry. I have been using it for just a little over a year. Last summer I had about 800 coins with it and a few rings and jewelry. By the way this was the only detector I had. I only got it because it was very light. I had a gti1500 before that. I got the DeLeon because I read posts that said that it was a good all around detector and worked good on the beaches. So I was sold on the DeLeon. I got it and it is a good detector but it is not a good detector for the beach. Some of the guys use it once on a small beach and give not so good advice to guys like us trying to get the best detector for what we can afford. If anyone would use it on the beach only, for months they will come to the same conclusion I had to come to. Most of my coins were dug from 2 to 4 inches. I dug all the 7" 95 reading one day and dug 24 cans some where at about 18". But who wants to dig cans?? I do not use the meter much it is the sound that really gets to you. You can tell a coin sound. I have trouble with dime sounds, to me it sounds like an echo and really like a tab sound or close to it. That is when I use the meter. 95 solid not jumping all over = shallow dime. Again Steve I dug 1400+ coins this year on the beach so it works and it is a good machine. It just does not work in wet, black sand or pock marked sand all that well to not at all. I dug a lot of iffy signals jumping all over the meter but were repeatable and good solid signals. Some were good. Double clicks pull tabs but some were nickels. Don't rely on the meter. I am a hypocrite because I only get TID machines. I like them to help me decide if I should dig or not.
Don't worry it will work fine for you. Your doing parks, tot lots and woods. I have no idea how deep it will go in parks and woods? It will work fine on dry sand also if you spend a little time on the beach (fresh water). It pin points just great that is one thing I like about it, right on the money. It is a simple machine to use. Batteries run 30 to 40 hours. Some people think I am bad mouthing the DeLeon just because I say it is not a good machine for beach work. It is a fact.... Can I do anything else for you?? Just ask .... Jer

Steve good morning
Thanks tabdog. Like tabdog says it goes deep enough for him. It is like wise for me. I will say you will find many keepers. I do not look at the meter I just dig a good solid sound. Some guys can tell you all the meter readings and how deep it read, I don't care. I just dig. I do like the TID machines. Just another tool to use,but don't bet the farm on them for accuracy. They can be fooled. I was trying to separate my rings but find I don't remember which detector found what. I have had 4 detectors in the last 3 years. This is the only time I have had 2 detectors at once. I live in an apartment so not lots of room to have detectors hanging around. I am going to take a picture of rings and some jewelry and try to put it up today. It is 28 degrees and thinking about heading out to the beach. I still need to get used to the new detector. Never buy a detector near the end of the season because you need to see just what it will do before you put it up.
Steve I am trying to set your mind at ease because when I ordered the xlt all of a sudden I was reading all kind of posts that the thing didn't work on the beach. So for about a week I was just fit to be tied with worry. I choose the wrong detector again. But as it is working out, just fine for what I want to do. Jer
