Wife doesn't want me to bring anything home - since we will be moving but

I couldn't resist so I risked life and limb. Made a trip out to my favorite detecting shop and brought home a use Fisher 1280x. Figured I'd trade in the GTA 1000 Ultra but its value dropped too much - because Garrett brought out the ACE 250s so this units value plummeted. Not a problem - just means I now own 3 metal detectors.

I have to say "God is Good - All the time and All the time - God is Good".

Here's some great things that have gone on. I put in about 77 hours doing the apartments preps. Got a new Skil cordless screw driver/drill because the Black & Secker FireStorm battery charger died leaving me with an almost new unit and 2 dead batteries (when I needed them the most!) Won't buy Black & Decker products any more - only place that seems to sell the 13.2 Volt charger is - Wal-mart - like I'm going to spend any more money with that company.

I received a letter back from the Unemployment Office. I have been approved for unemployment benefits and they determined - in their own words:

" You were discharged by Wal-mart associates on 07/16/05 due to allegations of inappropriate conduct. You denied such allegations. The allegations of you being involved in any inappropriate conduct is unsubstatntiated and do not constitute misconduct in connection with the work. Based on the available information no disqualification is imposed. It is found that you were not fired for a deliberate disregard of your employers interest. You are not disqualified for benefits under the MES Act. Sec. 29(1)(B)."

That is excellent news in many ways. Being exhonorated and the tarnished reputation being 'shined' makes me feel better. The unemployment check that came in the mail the same day sure helped too!

I have a 'new' detector, got a set of chest waders and working on making a larger 'PVC pipe' water scoop, got my unemployment check, got my reputation back, and still have a check for the 77 hours of work to come in on Friday and I even feel good not only for me but for being able to help out a fellow Christian (Alan who runs the detector shop). Sure is one fantastic day!

Thank you Father God and thank you Jesus. Praise and Glory to your Holy Name!

Yes He is good all the time! :) Thank you Lord for answered prayer! I got your phone message, and was not going to be in the area. The 1280X is a good machine. You will find that a nice stainless duck bill scoop will serve you much better.

The difference in cost is considrable - $130 for a stainless steel one or I can take a 6 inch one (actually many from the 6 inch by 8 foot tube) and then put an end cap on it. The end cap and the 8 foot long pipe is $32 - and as I say I can make several out of the tube. Just need to add an extra $10 cap for each one I cut and add a solid wood handle. So there is about $100 worth of difference between buying stainless or using PVC. Might be heavier (PVC) to carry but PVC is pretty solid - just need to drill a few holes and add some hardware to attach the handle (made one already out of a 4 inch pipe and it is real good just want that extra 2 inches at the mouth of it to make it easier to recover the item(s).

Maybe later I will go with stainless steel but for now PVC is a cheap way to go and is fun to make something with my own two hands too.

I couldn't get the message you left me on the cell phone - I was out of my area and roaming is twice the charge for half the time and even at that it still wouldn't retrieve my message. Didn't see you there so figured you were occupied elsewhere. That's ok gave Al and I time to talk about you
Just kidding.

they are expensive. I started with a cheaper mesh basket scoop with a medium long handle. It did not do the job! I then bought a large stainless duck bill scoop with a short handle for beach sand. I got it new on ebay. Then had a friend weld a long stainless handle on it. $130 scoop for $30 :) I want to see pics of yours when you are done. I made a nice short handle scoop out of PVC, just for dry sand. By the way, Drill 5/8" holes. They will hold a dime, but let more sand through!

6 inch PVC pipe with a cap for the back side. The cap was cut the way I wanted it to provide extra support where the handle goes into it and at the bottom.

5/8 inch drain holes. Used a Dremel tool to put an edge on the front so it will enter the sand easier. Might put a short rope on it to keep it from being lost if dropped. I think it (wood handle) would float so don't want it floating away or if not - sinking. Not really heavy either.

May look good but if she doesn't dig into the bottom then all my time and money was for naught.
