widescan coils

Has anyone tried the 10" eliptical wide scan on the tejon or the vaquero? I was wondering if there was any difference in the depth compared to the stock 9x8 concentric.

Do you mean the 5x10? I use the 5x10 on my vaquero a lot. more so recently because I wore out the 9x8 coil wire. The 5x10 works really good, I always thought the 9x8 was deeper, but a thimble at 10" found with the 5x10 coil on my vaquero had me questioning this. The spot where I found the thimble had been pounded by myself with the 9x8 and another fellow with a tejon also using the 9x8 coil.
I believe that on smaller targets about 5/8" or 1/2" in size and smaller the 5x10 might have a bit of an edge (actually an airtest comparing both coils will proove this, and it is especially true with rings). But on bigger targets the 9x8 will go deeper. Once you put the 5x10 on it's hard to take off, the extra ground coverage is hard to beat.

If my old memory is right Tesoro says the wide scan coil was designed to work in heaver mineralization soil, it has 30% less ground effect then the concentric. The concentric coil is a better discriminating coil, I belive a little more depth. IF I REMEMBER RIGHT hope this helps otie

Would like to try the 3x7 on my cibola but the 5,75 may be just as good.
