Widescan coil question...

Jeff Beecham

New member
I've used DD coils on a Minelab Advantage
a lot and like the separation ability compared
to other coils that I've used...

Would the 7" widescan coil perform similarly...
Would the separation between good and bad targets
be better than the same 7" concentric coil.. I can take
the 7.25" on the Advantage and place 3 dimes about one
inch apart and go across them and get 3 "distinct" beeps..
Will the 7" Widescan Tesoro coil do the same thing??

Thanks, Jeff

I do know that in the ground, you can get much closer seperation than two inches. The ground mineralization squeezes the detecting field. I won't be back home until tomorrow night so I have to keep you waiting just a little longer. :stars:

I used a zinc penny and a dime with the 8.5" widescan on my Golden.

Disc mode, about 3-4" coil height. Sens on about 4-ish (forgot to look but it wasn't very high)

At two inches there is a clear two target beep going both dime-zinc and zinc-dime. Sometimes the dime-zinc would give a third chirp.

At one inch there is a clear two target beep going both directions but it is sweep speed dependant. To fast and it sounds mixed. Slow down and you clearly hear the two seperate tones.

At 1/2" you hear a mixed tone going dime-zinc, but mostly just zinc going from zinc to dime.

I would expect more seperation in the ground just because ground mineralization squeezes the detection field.

Why would you be interested in a test of Dimes. Why not test trash vs coins like a small nail vs Dime or pull tab vs Dime.

If you lay 3 dimes in a row an inch or two apart;
1 pulltab, 1 dime and then another pulltab...
1 pulltab, 1 dime and one bottle cap.....

I'm only interested in the separation ability
regardless of the objects tested.... If it will
separate 3 dimes close together then it will pick
the dime out between the 2 pulltabs also.....
