Why, Why, Why,...Why are they making another Dollar coin if its no bigger than the other failures??

it is all bad. I don't intentionally hunt for clad. I do pick it up if it happens to get in my way! But now, finding an occasional dollar coin will put battery money in our pockets much faster than zincs and dimes have. I plan to do my part by spending them every chance I get. I don't like to carry coins in my pocket. And granted, this one is going to take up more space than dimes. But using them to pay for items I now use a dollar bill for might be a good way to help get them in circulation. And, the more of them in circulation....the more of them we will find detecting.

On the other hand, it could be just another way for Uncle Sam to make money. I have often wondered if the purpose of introducing new coins (and postage stamps) was just to get people to hoard them. We buy a roll or two, hoping that they will become collectible. And, they don't! They just sit around in our closets for years, with no increase in value. Not a bad gig. Make a dollar coin at the cost of 10 cents, people buy it, never spend it. Profit = 90 cents! Come to think of it, I may still have a couple jars of Bicentennial coin laying around here somewhere! Maybe I can trade them in at the bank for some of these new GW dollars! HH Randy

tested several coins on all three X-Terras and a variety of concentric coils. Wasn't able to test with my DD coil as it is still "out on loan". The 7.5 kHz concentric hits at 40 on the X-30, and 42 on both the X-50 and X-70. The 18.75 kHz concentric hits 42 on both the X-50 and the X-70. The 3 kHz hits 42 on the X-70. HH Randy

this latest cold front will blow right past you. Temps here at present are 11 degrees with 30 mph winds. Gusts to 40. And, another couple inches of snow. At least that what the latest prediction was. I don't know how they can measure it as it is snowing horizontally.

However, there is hope in the near future. Weather guessers are calling for temps up around freezing tomorrow, followed by 4 or 5 days of 35 - 55. It will take quite a few days (and nights) in the 40's to get rid of all this snow.

Won't be long now.....:detecting:

Oh, I also wish they would give us REAL silver dollars like I used to get for mowing lawns, picking berries, or just ask for in exchange for some crumply paper money. Those days are gone.

I didn't care for the Susan B. dollars as they looked like a quarter too often, and the Sacajawea dollars were 'OK' but as we know it didn't take long in the ground for them to discolor. (Just tossed them in with the pennies when I cleaned my coins and they came out fine!)

The problem I noted was with the release of them it was worse than the blasted state quarters. So many people thought they were going to have some sort of great value and they simply hoarded them. Got some for their kids, their grandkids, etc. and they socked them away. Because of this, and the fact that the government didn't get rid of the paper dollar, the dollar coins were not seen in circulation and folks lost interest in them.

Not me. I have always asked for any dollar coins the teller had when cashing a check so that I could try and keep some in circulation (maybe one might get lost where I would be detecting???).

If we will all just get some of the new dollars, spend them as often as possible, then we can help promote their use and .... we can only hope .... if the government will get rid of the blasted, expensive paper dollar then down the road not only will we have some more interesting coins to find, but hitting local recreation sites will be a lot more profitable!
