Why so many AT's returned to Garrett?

I have been thinking of getting an AT Pro but after reading about so many units having to be returned to Garretts for repair, I'm not so sure. What do you AT users think is the reason for all of these returned units?

First off Garrett (after some arguing on these forums between members) has stepped up and has taken care of the falsing issue with amazing turn around time. The falsing issue only had to deal with early sales. I haven't heard of any later sold detectors having the issue.

Secondly I would say that there has been a tremendous amount of the AT Pro detectors sold. A high profile machine will get talked about more than a seldom sold unit.

And I give credit to these forums and others. The hobby seems to be booming. The forums have been booming. Questions about today's hunt can be discussed almost immediately.

And I actually think there is some jealousy. The AT Pro comes at a much smaller price than some of the other detectors. And it competes very well with them. Some of the other brand users like to keep a light on the negative. Some of the AT Pro issues seem to be blown out of proportion. Or just plain repeated on various forums. Other brands had some launch issues too.

So what it all boils down to is this. The real manufacturing issue has been dealt with. The AT Pro can hunt with the big dogs. I know I was with them.

I think the issues have been solved..I have had mine for two and a half months and love it...the only gripe i have is the headphone cord is to short...I ordered the adapter and another set of phones...oh yeah one more issue...i got rid of my entrenching tool and now carry a short handle shovel in the woods...this thing ain't falsing, you gotta dig....

I had a falsing problem with my AT Pro which seems to be limited to the serial numbers that started with 505 and earlier. Mine was 504. Sent it in to Garrett and received it back in 16 days working perfectly. They even included a free stainless steel digger. Great Customer Service. The other detector companies can learn alot from them.....Just got home from the beach in NJ where my recently returned AT scored a beautiful 1777 Eight Reale. Wa Hooooo!!!!! Check out my photo's and video on Today's Find page....

I had bought the first original models back in November, and had not even open the box until in march until the snow finally melted, and I also waited this long because I was expecting to see if there were going to be some problems with this new technology, being in the car business when manufacture is rushing to get there products out, they never able to work out all the bugs out in time when there giving such a deadline for order deliveries dates to the dealer, so they just roll the dice and ship the products anyways, either way I was optimistic that mine would be okay.On the first day that I took the ATP out it seemed to be allot more noisy then I expected even with the setting scaled back but I thought this was the nature of the beast until the 3rd time out I could not ground balance at all it went berserk , I doubled check my connections ,new batteries, reset to manufacture setting, no fix,So I called Garrett talked to BRAD ( He is the best)and ship ed out my ATP. and in a very short time, I received my repaired ATP,Let me tell you thisThis machine is unbelievable!!!! so much quieter and smoother, and in my test garden it worked flawlessly you can even hear the frequency echo upon higher tones I was blown away by the difference ,even the model number was different on this one so I am sure with any new machines being built now you will not have any problems.

Garrett products do have the highest quality and value machine in the business and even more important they have the very very best customer service is unmatched than any other metal detector in the world!!. No company is perfect but from my experience and from what I read Like a good old fashion MADE IN THE USA business man he proudly stands by his products and does what ever he can so your completely satisfied.Yea sure this was a stigma for the ATP and sure there were some problems with some of there earlier ATP machines like mine but as for the last several weeks there hasn't been anymore complaints with the newer models, Garrett fixed my ATP pretty quickly and plus there has been allot of detectorist very happy with there repaired ATP. Seriously you have nothing to worried about.

Thank you guys for the insight. Except for "Oak" of course. Oak, that is something I would say, LOL. I do wonder though if I should wait until the first model change to fix some of the issues I read about on this forum.
Thanks again for great response.

john when white's introduced the v3 there were a lot of problems. headphones had problems ,volume problems and they recalled them to have it fixed.I'm sure every brand has some sort of early problems with a radically designed detector. The thing that counts is how does the company respond? Garrett again showed how it's done and quickly fixed the issue of falsing. the other things are just nitpicking. how long a headphone cord is,how the detector stand sits up are just minor things you can fix yourself. if it was a $1500 detector then i might have cause to say they should try and find a different way of doing it.you buy a car and add different hubcaps, different radios or etc.the price of the atpro justifies you buying lots of add ons for it because the bottom line is it out performs most top end detectors out there in all kinds of soil conditions. that's all that matters to me.

Cornelius, INDEED, other detector companies have HAD PROBLEMS with NEW Releases!! But, like you said, it is how the Company's Customer Svc.
Dept. CORRECTS the Problem that REALLY COUNTS!! WHITES ELECTRONICS & GARRETTS METAL DETECTORS definitely SETS the
HIGHEST STANDARDS!! Les Robinson
