Jump sasquache, just do it .Looks like you have owned a lot of top brand detectors, and read and read and reread reviews and watched the videos of the ATpro. Looks like U spent alot of money on other detectors and now are in a delema over a Main machine. The information about the Atpro is so true. I have read and reread reviews and watched videos about the ATpro and have come to the conclusion "It is a relic machine". Itst to easy for me to C That the Garrett company has got this one nailed and grounded. 600 dollars for this machine and I love it...........

I like mine because it does everything I want, and does it well. It is very good on rings. I've had it for a little over a month, and have found 3 gold rings already. One at over 7" deep. The information it gives you is amazing, once you learn what it's saying. If it preforms as well in the water as it does on land, and I think it will. I don' know what more you could want in a detector. Just my opinion.

1) It has the standard mode, similar to an ACE 250 and is great for beginners, coin & jewellery hunting yet is deep and sensitive to gold.

2) It has the PRO mode, which is one of the deepest metal detectors (single frequency) available today. It was designed to find deep relics, yet with the 15kHz operating frequency, remains very sensitive to gold targets.

3) It is also water proof to 10 feet, so a quick accidental drop in the water or sudden rain will still keep you in the game. And, as a water machine, opens up a new style of detecting and territory in case you were ever interested without buying another water machine.

4) It's made in USA and costs less then half the price of some of the most expensive single frequency metal detectors which are restricted to land hunting only on non-rainy days.

Because it takes the place of three to four detectors of any other brand. That's how many you would have to buy to get the same performance incorporated into the PRO and at a ridiculously low price. Just think what you would have to lay out for just a water hunting detector alone..It's an easy choice.

You did not say but from the detectors you have owned I must guess you are a coin hunter and do not do much beach hunting.

The two detectors on you list that should have impressed you were the Explorer XS and the CZ-3D.
If you were not impressed by them you will not be impressed with the AT Pro.
Beach hunters will get the most bang for their buck from the AT Pro as they are sensitive and waterproof and by using the the iron audio you can ID bottle caps that try to masquerade as a quarter.

I chose to add the AT Pro to my arsenal because it was waterproof and would work well in wet saltwater sand.
I am a beach hunter mainly and a park and school ground coin hunter secondly and this unit works good for both of these tasks.
It's mid range cost was also a factor as was the transferable warranty and Garrett's reputation for great service.

IMHO ... the AT PRO is the best and deepest detecting VLF detector Garrett is making right now.
But ... I expect that to change sometime in the future.

If you like tinkering with 200 different settings don't buy it. If you like swinging a heavy machine then don't buy it. If your never going to hunt in the dirt, rain or water then don't buy it. If your not after gold jewelry then don't buy it. If you like to dig shallow targets then don't buy it.

Hello Willee i gotta say i like all of the detector above and was vary impressed with there performance but there were situation and just the "wanting too try" other detectors that just pushes me into tradeing or selling lol but i have too say Garretts GTI 2500 was by far the deep seeker out of all i have used in all metal. The best all around coin/relic hunting would be the Minelab Explorer XS. So now i must try Garretts ATPRO and with Garretts reputation and my own experience dealing with them in the past i think its time too order one.Thank you SAS

Hi folks,
I just joined the forum after having just ordering an AT Pro based on the various comments I've read here on this forum. I look forward to getting the new detector next week which will also come with the pro pointer. I received a nice package deal from Andrew at New England Detectors and would recommend others consider him too.

Its going to be a bit of a learning curve for me as I only had a Radio Shack MD which really never did much but find some iron for me. That detector finally just failed to perform even that task which, combined with a tax return and my upcoming birthday, was enough justification for a new one. My kids are really looking forward to "treasure hunting" in the nearby park and so is the wife.

I look forward to continuing to learn from those who are kind enough to mentor us newbies. Thanks again!

Willie, you know something we don't? I have been thinking about buying an AT Pro but wonder what Garrett will be coming with out next,,,,,
