Why people bought a Sov. over an Exp.?

I just want to know peoples opinion, why they bought(what effected their decision to buy) a Sovereign (GT) over and instead of an Explorer (SE) or E-Trac ??

(I myself just for one big issue for me alone is, I honestly do love analog dials-knobs--big time, much better than--stressful digital push pads with menus and sub menus, in my opinion but what is yours and other reasons you prefer the Sov. over the Exp. or vise versa ??) If most do hunt by sound anyway on the Exp. and E-Trac what is the point getting one over a Sov. and just get a Sov. over an Exp.

Be very brief, and thanks!

i dont like touch pads and the weight of the Exp will kill ya..i hip mount my GT ...no problems!

I have both the GT and the E-Trac as well as an Explorer. I like the Audio ID Tonal Range of the Explorer and E-Trac much better than that of the GT. I like the GT for the pure simplicity as well as it's solid and dependable performance on an Ocean Beach.

Thanks Bling, good info. on your hipmount.

Thanks again Beachcomber, you have replied to a couple of my posts in the past. Example: a lower setting of the Excal's Disc. setting for hunting salt as compared to the Tiger Shark. Forget about PI's and meaning the Excal being the best salt water discriminator on the market.. etc. etc. You have given me solid information that I was exactly looking for. I have learned alot from you and your posts [along with Randy(Digger)] are among the very best on Findmall. Thanks for unselfishly sharing your invaluable information, it is appreciated. I hope you get good stuff in return as well. I can't see how I helped you in any way  but I sure hope I did somehow, heheha.

This below tells me alot from a person who owns all 3 machines(the GT, E-Trac, and Exp.)
Your quote, "I like the Audio ID Tonal Range of the Explorer and E-Trac much better than that of the GT."
In other words hunting by sound--tone is better on the Exp. and E-T than on the GT, if I got it right!

I originally owned a Sovereign GT, after years of owning a sovereign XS-2a PRO. Then the Explorer SE came out. I was seduced by the lure of the SE, and I sold the GT and got the SE.
That was a big mistake for me. I hated navigating menus within menus just to make an adjustment, I hated screen glare, I hated the weight and the plastic housing. I also loathed the small buttons on the SE faceplate. I ended up only using the explorer in All metal mode. For the money I got a great all metal mode with the GT. Plus I enjoy the GT's mounting options, Knowing what all my adjustment are with a glance, and I like the GT's ability on the beach in the winter looking for Spanish silver. And I think I get the same depth with the GT as I did with the SE. In the end I guess the Explorer series is a great machine as evident of the finds people make with it, but for me I am better off with a SOV GT.

Just my opinion but the Sovereign offers the bare bone great features of the Explores without all the bells and whistles i never used.
I now own a GT again, and love it.

I agree with Beachcomer that the Explorers have a better audio for IDing, but I like the tone quality of the GT better as it is easier to hear for me and the meter IDing of the GT IDs what you are hearing is what the meter is reading. With the Explorers and E-Trac you get the tones, but the visual ID is only after the threshold tone comes back.
I like all 3 of them with the GT more of a turn on a go detector while the Explorers you have to do more thing like nosie cancel , but if I was to get rid of one it would be the SE Pro as I like the E-Trac better and probably never get rid of the GT, if I did it would be for another one that may be a new model.
