Why my next detector will be a Gold umax...

Because of my Royal Sabre! I got a 5.75" coil for my Silver umax and had been leaving the Royal in the closet because of a bad coil. Finally, I got tired of the trashy sites not producing as I thought they should with other brands of detectors and put the coil on my Royal. Last week I found a gold ring in the trash. This week I took it out to a park I had searched every two weeks for nearly 3 months. It was if half the coins had been missed! The Golden has the umax configuration instead fo the Lobo-like configuration, is light weight, the 9X8 coil to go with my small coil, quick-switch toggles, tone modification, the disc level can go below bottlecap-well-you get the idea. Thank God I have something to use while I'm waiting. Thanx Tesoro for the oldies.

The Golden has great tones. Actually, it has more than 4 tones because it can blend 2 tones together when trash is next to a coin.

Lets not forget the oldies but goodies like the GS 11 or the Pantera.....understand the new tone setup is an asset to the g-umax so good luck....

make a golden with ground balance. That would make an awesome detector!!! Good luck and HH. Bob.
For my trashy areas, a couple of inches depth is all I need. I'm sure the Golden can handle that. And I already have a 5.75" coil. I also have a 4" coil. Can't wait.

slingshot,

I hope that you find one to buy and may your wishes come true...........I have read your posts thru the years about wanting one Are you goung to buy the newer version with the tone change? Good luck with your future new Tesoro

Doesn't it have a gb pot inside? :look:

The Golden gets really good depth if you use minimum discrimination and leave the notch switch in the off position and just use the tones to hunt with. With those settings the Golden should be as deep or deeper than your Silver uMax if both are fitted with the same size coil. Also with the notch switch in the off position, you can use the notch width control knob to change the tone break point between foil and iron.

After reading Mike Hillis' posts, probably the new tones. I can set the Royal for 3 tones (splitting the tones on tabs),, but it doesn't have enough witdth in the tone mode to cover all tabs. The Golden can alter the break points on the tones by using the notch width switch and I can customize my tone breaks. I'm surprised the machine is such a sleeper and am lucky, since it's not a big seller in their line, they still continue to make it. I try to tell myself beep-dig is the way-but there are just some locations and some days my attitude weakens to just plain enjoying things for a while. What I like is that it's like 3 detectors in one: beep-dig, notch, tone ID. How could I have put it off so long.? It's gotta be the best deal out there.

Sounds :) attractive. Would I be disappointed with the depth after using a Tejon for a few seasons ? I have an ACE 250 and Tejon, so surely there is a reasonable middle ground for the Golden.

Don't know-I've read posts where coins have been found at 8". But that's not what I'm getting it for. Depth doesn't mean that much anymore. I search regular sites and just how far down can a gold ring go in a couple of weeks? I had a CZ-5 and found one or two good finds at good depths, but I also found zincers at 8". I'm just no into searching out old sites. Maybe when I can retire.

Too bad. I was hoping for a response from a long time user. I guess that I'll have to do a search. I am concerned about the Goldens depth because I need it. The spot that I am checking has been pounded hard and I have to squeak out deeper coins. It would be nice to have the Goldens features though.

I doubt it very much. And Stinkfoot wouldn't want it , either. I repeat-I'm not getting it for the depth. Most finds in my type of searching are the first 3-5". Depth doesn't mean a thing to me in my type of searching-actually, the Golden is deep for my type of searching.

This does not suprise me at all, on the beach I expect this kind of depth + some with the Vaq.

However, the Golden is not designed with depth in mind. It was built for cherry picking goodies out of trashy places where I would not want to go with my Vaq because of the inability to discern good non-ferrous from bad non-ferrous acurately.
