The AT Gold is foremost a gold machine. It is very sensitive to small low conductive metal. I have been using it to relic hunt colonial sites loaded with iron. In iron ID mode you have to concentrate on the two signals it produces to pull out good targets from the iron. If you chose to turn off iron id you will become a "meter watcher" because in all metal mode all targets sound the same with iron id off. With 40 choices of iron resolution it allows the operator to adjust just the right amount of iron disc to prevent iron masking. From 40 to 50 is a range of conductors that is mostly small non ferrous targets. When relic hunting in woods and fields this is mostly small buckshot, .22 caliber lead etc. You must be patient and willing to dig a ton of these targets in order to find larger, deeper conductors and targets on edge. If you use disc. 2 you will miss many buttons and the signal will break up on some Minnie balls. Why do people ask will this detector find coins? It will find all targets down to a certain depth. Most coin hunters including my self when I hunt coins ,would want a detector with a little more disc or notch ability. Real world depth on most coins???? Depends on ground minerals and coil size and detector frequency enhanced to find high conductors. The small coil has excellent depth but its advantage is to separate targets in close proximity. To me the AT Gold is a well made, well thought out machine designed to do just what the add says. FIND GOLD. You want to make it an "all rounder" you can but don't complain when using it for certain applications. Chose wisely.
