Why it is better to metal detect !!!

Silicon John

New member
There is metal detecting and there is gold panning and metal detecting is easier. And many do a lot better with the metal detector. The only good thing about panning is that there is gold in every pan, but not much. Anyway here are photos of last weekend panning.

But John......you missed that" big one" that you were standing on and would have found it if you were using a detector.

YOU GUYS ARE MISSING THE REASON TO USE A PAN IT IS FOR SAMPLING SO YOU CAN BRING IN SOMETHING LARGER WHEN YOU FIND SOME GOOD COLOR, THEN YOU BRING IN A SMALL HIGHBANKER AND MOVE 20 TIME MORE GRAVEL THAN A PAN AND RECOVER ALOT MORE GOLD, YOU CAN USE THE METAL DETECTOR THE SAME WAY, IF YOU FIND A GOOD SIZE PEICE OF GOLD WITH THE METAL DETECTOR THERE IS A GOOD CHANCE THERE IS A LOT MORE SMALLER PEICES OF GOLD THE DETECTOR IS NOT SEEING! AND YOU CAN BUILD ALOT OF GOLD RECOVERY EQUIPMENT FOR A FRACTION OF WHAT IT COSTS TO BUY. USING A PAN FOR GOLD RECOVERY AND PRODUCTION IS A BAD IDEA. YOU WANT THE EQIPMENT TO WORK FOR YOU, YOU USE THE PAN AT THE VERY BEGINING AND THE VERY END OF PRODUCTION. THE ARE LOTS OF SITES ON THE INTERNET WITH PLANS TO BUILD EQUIPMENT OR DESIGN YOUR OWN, BUT IF YOU ARE USING A PAN FOR PRODUCTION YOU CAN FIND MORE GOLD WITH A SCREEN AND A FIVE GALLON BUCKET.

Hi Prospector 55,

Well, I have to tell you that I was using a sluice in the creek. It was a very poor creek. It was so far from my home that once you set up you have to just keep working and do your best for this trip. As you know it takes time to set up and to sample a stream.

What or how do you use a screen and a five gal bucket?
