Why is the SE so unstable in All Metal?

I live in southern North Carolina, so that means a LOT of iron in our soil. I've used my White's 6000 Di Pro in all metal, with no problems. After a good ground balance, the mineralised soil is excluded from the audio signals. But my SE is a whole different ball game. No matter how low I adjust the sensitivity, when I set up for IM -32, the audio sounds like an electronic machine gun. It's responding to the iron in the soil. I use ferrous tones, but the constant staccato of the audio is nerve wracking. I am very familiar with all of the controls & adjustments, so I feel good that my settings are not out of line. Someone please tell me this is not normal, so I can send it back to Minelab for repair or replacement.

If you are running with the 10.5" Slimline stock coil. I had one on my Explorer II and it was doing the same thing as far as instability. When I put the ML 8" coil on everything seemed fine. I have the earlier version of the 10.5" coil coming this week and I am going to see if that makes a difference as well.

My Explorer XS does the same thing as does my DFX when I put them in all metal as well. It could be that even though your 6000 Di Pro does not give the drumming like sound in all metal it just might not be a perfect all metal such as the DFX or Minelab have. It might be like a -27 on the SE or a -14 on the XS.

Hello,
I use the SE but am definitely no expert although I'm getting pretty good with it:

I use ALL METAL MODE-CONDUCT-Sensitivity 16-22-Gain 6-8-IRON MASK-20 and I love the sounds! Are you setting NOISE REDUCTION when you first get on site? It is a must to do. No soil's more mineralized that what we have here in Southern Colorado and this procedure must be done each time you turn the machine on or change coils. Be sure to keep your coil covers clean by taking them off and washing them out, wiping the coil before re-installing. I "DUPONT BED-LINERED" mine to do away with the covers altogether. Works like a charm but be sure to test the coating before applying anything to your coils and follow the manufacturers instructions to a tee. Coil size does effect SENSITIVY-GAIN settings. I find on smaller coils I can up SENSITIVY-GAIN depending on locations. I must lower them for larger coils.

I hope my info helps, the SE is awesome but only in ALL METAL (at least for me).

are just bad from the factor. My was bad from the factory so I sent it back they replaced it. The symptoms were tons of falseing and the cross hairs would lock in one spot. I thought to myself wow I bought this? I tried sunray's 8in coil and it worked great. Send it in and get it looked at. I haven't been able to try the new coil yet, I'm still in a cast. Mike

you will get a deep drum bas sounding.

It is just very sensitive. Try running iron mask to the point the drumming stops if it bugs you. But you will need to slow your swing a little if it nulls too much.
