when I pinpoint a target then lay the XS down (on a target free area) to dig, the thing blares loudly in my ear like it is on a hot target.
Should I have to turn off 'pinpoint' to put the detector down?
Another small problem I've noticed (it's only a week old) sometimes I lose threshold signal which then needs the headset plug wriggled to bring it back. Is this a warranty problem, or can this plug be replaced with a stronger/larger one?
Thanks in advance.

Neil,
After pinpointing the target(in pinpoint), hit the button again when u sit it down or it will get quite noisy.
Common headset problem with the XS. Get Ralph's stand (SunRay) and get a better pair of headsets, then that problem is no more. deja vu wmike

Neil,
On the Explorer the threshold in pinpoint will go wild if you lay it on the ground, I think it has someting to do with it trying to retune itself.
On the Sunray stand it is a stand that goes on the battery compartment of the Explorer for a stand as the one that come with the Explorer mounts on the coil and it just dont work and will break your nylon bolt plus the coil wont stay tight. Now with the Sunray stand there is a 1/8 plug that will go into the headphone jack of the Explorer and then the stand has a 1/4 inch jack on it so you can use regular headphones. A Good set is a must with the Explorer, the ones that come with it may only last a day or 2 as they are not that great.
Good luck with the Explore and have some patience with it.
Rick

thanks Rick, I'll have to see if I can source that stand / jack from here.

is that losing threshold is normal when you go over any target including iron that is disced out, so it may not be the headphones at all.. just the explorers way of informing you that your over something you dont want to hear

Having to wiggle the jack plug to regain threshhold or any sound describes the problem
I had in my first two weeks. Turned out to be a bad solder connection on the plug itself. Due to the confined space its located in,the connecting inputs are folded flat on the plug housing and
any soldering to them must be done quickly or
you melt the housing. This "quick" soldering
often results in a cold solder joint with both
electrical and mechanical failure following. Not having a warrenty I fixed it myself with no problems since.

If you are looking for the explorer headphone stand go to:

Click on the banner ad for Sunray somewhere in there is the Explorer stand, its only $19.95 and well worth it.
