Why is coil wire so long on Excalibur ?

BLONDI

New member
I need to know if there is a reason why the coil wire is so long on an Excalibur . I've been offered one with a shortened coil but I need to know if this is a problem or not . Thanks in advance for any help you may give .

They make the Sov coil wires very long too.
It's done on purpose.......
No matter how tall you are, or how far you extend the rod, or if you want to hip or chest mount the detector to make it lighter to swing, you will still have plenty of wire.

Otherwise people would be complaining that they need extension wires for their coils.
Most of us find extra wire to be a nuisance, but when you want it, you got it.......unless you hack some off, then later wish you had not.

it helps to have the extra length when you chest or hip mount the unit......As for getting one with a shortened cable, It depends who did the shortening, there are some real hacks out there that work on these units, I got one one time and the sodering was bush league at best, If you want a shorter cable it is best to do it yourself.......

Like the other to posts said, it is mainly for those who want to hip or chest mount the control pod. I just sent my Excal 1000 to Minelab to have the coil shortened to 48 inches. as I will only be using a Lightening Rod straight shaft.
I would only have Minelab to the work...

I read on a gold prospecting forum that different coils need to be certain lengths for it's optimum performance. It has something to do with the electronics, something which I know not too much about.
