Why I switched to Etrac from a V3i

Everybody asked why I switched. I got good finds with the V3i but I was just not satisfied I was getting good depth. I certainly was not getting the depth some other guys were claiming. I know a lot of these are fish stories and a lot truely believe their penny was at the bottom of the hole when it was secretly sliding back to the bottom after each scoop. Here is some evidence you just can not dispute. My ground changes a lot. I hunt old houses where you go from rich black dirt, to Sand, to Gravel each pass as you grid an area. You almost must run Auto sensitivity. I usually use a Pick and Hack through the grass then peel it back. I wind up with about a 6" hole with exposed dirt. In this case mostly gravel.

I then use my Rapter Trowel to get down if I need to. Do you see the Wheat Penny on edge in the side of the Hole. No way my V3i would have picked that up with out a special ground Balance and low filter swinging at a Snail's Pace. By the way before people start saying practice your Pinpoint, a Coin on Edge always projects off to the side just a little.

How deep was the penny, in the picture it doesn't look very deep.

It was about 6". An on edge 6" penny, especially one almost directly on edge at 6" is hard to detect. I went back out there and found several more coins including 4 Wheats. A 1929D, 1942D, 1945D, and a 1945. I also took a picture of the finished hole and found this

All right! Looks like you two are getting along well. I'm not familiar with any other machine really but my IDX and Explorer2. I always hear about excessive fiddling with the newer Whites, even the XLT and DFX,which is why I strayed from Whites and got the Minelab. I love the fact that with the ML it certainly CAN be tweaked a lot but I don't NEED to. Besides the Sens and once in awhile Gain,it just cruises along and finds stuff,as long as the operator knows what's going on somewhat. And yes,I'd imagine "cocked" coins could be more difficult to find, though I've only found one for sure,an 1850 Bank of Upper Canada half penny that was standing straight up,5-6" down in semi frozen ground. That's the only reason I knew how it was oriented.
Us northerners are counting on the rest of you to come through with the pics, nice job DF!

Last week I found a George II cast counterfeit half penny on edge at the depth of the pro pointer. Have the video to prove it lol. The etrac is a great machine. Hits deep coins like nothing. You'll love it!!
