A few weeks ago I bought a used ATP. It has been a very hot summer and I have been wanting to combine my two favorite things, detecting and being in the water. I only have a couple of small freshwater swim areas nearby, so over three or four weekends I hunted them. In the water only, as there is no real sand beach or anything, just a grassy area and then the water.
It has been great, and I will be sad when the weather turns colder and I will have to revert back to land hunting. I Have found water hunting superior for the following reasons:
- you stay cool on a hot day
-you can pee whenever you want to
-the bikini scenery is excellent
-the trash to keeper ratio is much better in the water
-nothing is prettier than gold in the scoop
-every week the goodies are replenished
-and I'm sure I could think of more
The ATP was simple to learn. I come from Fisher machines, but in the water with a dig it all mentality, it's easy. Pro zero, no disc, sense two bars below max and GB about 89.
check the loot in just a few short hunts. Many rings, ranging from a 60 year old gold class ring (trying to find the owner or next of kin) to tungsten, stainless, .925, titanium, and junk. The second ring in the top row was a heart stopper. It's heavy, a lovely gold color, and rang up about 54 VDI. It's one of those Lord of the Rings rings. &*%$ you Gollum! No markings, so I'm sure it's just pretty junk. One of the .925 ring fits me and I've been wearing it. One hunt I hit a bunch of earrings. Most were junk. You can see the .925 with green stone, and the little one next to it is 14k. I can't believe the Pro hit it. It's tiny, and weighs almost nothing. Not sure why I even scooped it. I need to do some testing as I don't remember what kind of signal it gave off. Also found a few pieces of piercing jewelry as you can see. One of the items is odd. I think it's a hairpin, and may be old. Has a kangaroo on top and it heavy. Might be bronze or brass or something. Also got the junk chain with the copper cross on it. A weird signal mix or iron, mid and high tone.
Thanks for looking and thank you for all your posts about how to run the ATP! It made it easy for this water hunting newb. I think I've decided to keep my F5 for land hunting, ATP for land and water hunting, and sell off my F75 LTD2. The other two cover all my styles of hunting, and I don't need the depth of the 75 for my kind of hunting. Happy Hunting! Mark
