Why get a vaquero when you have a tejon

I don't see a reason. The ground in northern Michigan is mild and detectors can go deep.

I will be getting a 5x10 and 10 x12 this spring for the tejon. I think the 5x10 will become my main coil. Would also like to get the 8" round coil sometime.

I have a: tejon, 1236x2, SurfMaster II vlf all nice single tone anolog detectors. Would like to see more of them available.

I'm right there with you rick. I had both but like the adjustments that can be changed on the tejon. The v is a great machine, I do like the one batt. system but the tejon balances out a little better for me. Either will get the job done. I have the nel hunter coil but rarely use it as it is a little big for my taste, deep sucker though. I actually prefer the stock coil on grass but would like the round 8 also to try out. HMMM,,,may sell the nel and pick up a donut....good luck.

I can't think of ANY need for a Vaquero if you have a Tejon!
Also, you mentioned wanting to get a 5"X 10" coil, are you talking about the Tesoro coil or another brand?
My Tejon seems to really like the Tesoro 5"X 10" Wide Scan coil. For TOT-Lots I'm thinking the 5.75" coil would be a good choice, over any of the larger coils.

I only have the Tejon of the two. For some people the dollar difference between the two may be a deciding factor. In that case with the Vaq they are still getting a deep detector at a great price. The reason I purchased the Tejon is that I wanted a sensitive detector that was flat out deep. I had considered an F70 but preferred the simplicity of the Tejon. The Tejons depth has not disappointed me! I have been amazed at the depth on coins. Despite the fact that the Tejon is higher frequency, it is a coin hound! In my opinion the freq difference between the two is not big enough to make any significant difference. That said, having the Tejon, I have no need to get the Vaq. On my list is another Tiger Shark!

Had both and still have the Tejon . recently sent in and had the coil rebuilt . traded the 12x10 didn't use it traded the 5.75 concentric didn't use it the stock coil does everything I need it to do on the Tejon . Almost sold the Tejon after I got it back from Tesoro but decided to keep it and use it when the area hunted required it . It is a depth monster for sure Have hit BB size targets at well over 12 inches here in North Texas

I agree that the Tejon and the stock coil can be pretty amazing!, I had the 10"X 12" and both of the 5.75" coils and I've sold or traded all them off. In a trade with my brother for his Tejon and I got a 5"X 10" Tesoro coil which I do like very well.

The only thing I could point out here is the fast re-tune of the Vaquero. Most of the detecting I do is in the AM mode - regardless of where I am. I bypass many signals listening for the right sound in all-metal, when I hear the familiar sound of a decent target I might investigate in disc mode or just decide to dig.
I could never do this with the slow re-tune of the Tejon, in trashy areas or medium/high mineralization the threshold would be up and down, it would be nearly impossible to lock on to a target signal, never mind trying to differentiate it from good/bad. Also because of the fast re-tune I can swing it a lot faster and cover more ground than I could if I was using the Tejon.

And the Vaq is just deeper.

Been thinking about getting the 5x10 and trying it just might order one

I have a Modded Cibola, Vaquero and Tejon. They're all great detectors, but I prefer my modded Cibola and Vaquero over the Tejon. That could change once I get more detecting time in with the Tejon. I've just been reading some guru's advice on what he says is the best way to unmask good targets at nail infested sites using the F75. He says to use the single mono tone, set the discrimination to a point where the nails are just cracking and popping on the audio, ignore the ID numbers because they won't be correct because of the masking and dig all clear repeatable audio tones. That's pretty much how I use my Tesoro detectors:)

How I came about my first Tejon is I already had a Vaquero that wasn't working to well for my style of hunting, that means that to get to the 8" coins in our city park I had to super tune it and then I couldn't discriminate nails out! So, I got an even trade offer, a Tejon for my Vaquero, that worked for me. Now I can run the full depth capabilities of the Tejon and retain the discrimination abilities. Now I'm on my second Tejon and I've not been able to find anything that the Vaquero could do that the Tejon can't, but they're many different hunting styles and hunting places and I know I'm not covering all them.
The Tejon I have now used to belong to "treasurebone" and it the one he used while he was doing those movie parody detecting hunts with his son.

Your going to get a lot of different answers on this one. I've owned several different detectors including 2 vaqueros. The first one was great. The second one I never liked. . My favorites are Whites MXTpro, Tejon, and Minelab explorer in that order. I can no longer hoist the whites but currently have the other 2. The areas I hunt are well hunted and I need every inch of depth I can get. The tejon does it plus I like the way it talks. If you have one now. The V might be great for trashy sites. But if you like your Tejon and are finding stuff with it, I suspect you will find the V is a little too tame.
