Why don't Whites do a re-call on the MX5

Since Whites is now aware of the tone issue on some of the
MX5's. ....why don't they just do a recall and have all their
dealers send them in for the fix.

I'm sure Whites is not straped for cash and paying for the
shipping both ways - is written off as a business expense.

I sure as heck don't want to buy one from a dealer that
has a stock of these and then have to waste my time
and money sending it back.

Who knows how many of these are already in the hands of
dealers or a warehouse - that may have the tone issue,

I would love to see Whites do a recall - check every machine
and perhaps provide some notification as to what dealers
have the MX5 without the tone issue.

I would buy one right now but ..... at this point I don't want
to gamble!

If they would publish a serial number break for the pre/post problem, so I'd know that it was fixed,
I'd like one myself. I don't want the headache of dealing with a return.

That's the problem. Why should we lose our time and money, instead of purchasing a product that works right away? I for example don't live in the US. Sending it back right after buying it, would take me ages and costs a load of money. Maybe they are thinking, that only 10% realises, that they have an issue and are willing to send it back. This way it would be much cheaper for White's.

Neither will I. As you said, they should tell us the serial numbers, so we can at least wait for a new charge.

Only a few of the many had an issue. It was an adjustment issue from my understanding. I would imagine dealers stock has all been checked and traded back for ones that have been cleared. By spring this issue will be history and many wont remember it. I wont. My son n law is gonna buy a new one in the next couple weeks. No worries

You sound like a White's spokesman... The dealers have no time for this. As you can see in the other thread, some of them don't even know, the problem exists.

Im not a whites spokesperson lol ive just used whites for so long and i trust them to do the right thing. Some dealers may not know but that doesnt mean whites wont trade them out when new shipment arrive. The prison i retired from often did that. If a product came in defective there were times we didnt know but manufacturer would send in a replacement shipment to replace the suspect one. And we never knew why. Also some dealers dont read forums or sell just 1 brand. So i could see some not knowing.

If you think basstrackerman is a whites spokesman, you would be wrong. He was one of the first to point out the issues with the MX5 tones.

If you have detected for any length of time you will know the reputation of Whites customer service, they take care of their customers. If I didn't already have an M6, I would be all over the MX5 and not be worried about it.

Same here on everything Cadman has said that I have quoted . I've been following the launching of the MX5 from the beginning and not only on this forum.

Recent LT Mag has a Field test on the MX5. Will be interesting to read & see if any tone issues get mentioned. That will have to wait when I'm at work (to read the magazine).

I just started to look at the MX5..... always wondering when & what my next detector purchase will be. The MX5 seems to have a lot going for it.

Yes, I think the MX5 has alot going for it. I was thinking about going
back to the AT PRO OR ATGOLD but, I think the MX5 is going to my
choice.

Just need to figure out when I can a machine with no tone issues.

Im having this issue but they want me to pay over 100 bucks

If it is the same issue as the first MX5's had they shouldn't charge you to fix it, since it was a well known defect. If they do, this is not the same Whites customer service that they have been famous for in the past. You might try posting on Whites own forum about this and see what happens.

I know :( mines kinda wierd it will stay locked on low tone for a while too
