why does quick mask seem more powerful?

why does it seem like when i detect in quickmask the detector seems to "hit" targets so much easier, but with jumpier numbers, and if so, then how can i apply this to my nomal detecting using discrimination?

You can custimize the quick mask screen and really fine tune to the targets YOU have in your area and want to find. Andy's book explains this very well and easier for me to understand than the manual. I use the factory settings since I have'nt had my E-Trac long but so far I have been very pleased although I am going to modify the tone for silver so it matchs my Safari silver tone. Good luck and HH :minelab:

thank you for the response. i am confused by the term "quick-mask". what are you "quickly masking"? when you hit the quick mask button you are opening up the screen (or, turning the discrimination off). it seems to me like it should be called "quick-UNmask" because you are unmasking the black areas, the areas that will blank the detector.

also i am curious, if i am going to a place where targets will be few and far between, such as a farm field, should i run in quick mask the whole time or should i run in relic mode? what is the difference between running in quick mask or running in relic mode? they seem like almost the same pattern.

any comments are appreciated.

To hunt in a open screen Quick Mask would soon drive me nuts. It hits on everything, but when I have a target that is iffy and I'm wanting to know whats down there I will switch to Quick Mask to check that specific target out.

Many times it has made the difference between walking away from a good target or digging it. If I check the target and the target box drops to the lower right corner and stays there I have a piece of iron and I walk on. If the target audio cleans up and the target box bounces to the lower right corner and back to the upper mid section I know I have more then one target and one is probably a good one. I have dug many silver coins, wheat cents and tokens doing this that other wise I would have walked away from. Rick-IL
