Why do we find so many buckles?

Coins and other things that may have been in a pocket I can understand stand. But buckles, how? Why? Did our forefathers frequently get somewhere and then say "oh dear, I must have lost my belt buckle along the way"
I can understand saddle and harness buckles being lost since we are not wearing them. Perhaps they frequently had to hold their pants up upon arrival....

Clothing articles were ripped right off with this extreme work that went on.There was not much money in the pockets during the period.I have dug so many colonial buttons, buckles in a small area with only locating one colonial period coin in the mix.We did not even have our own coins until what? The late 1700's.It is amazing how quick the Country has progressed in the not quite three hundred year period. :-D

In my years of detecting the woods, I have found more women and mens undergarments than I care to remember. To me it appears that clothing was and still is being ripped off in the woods. I can only imagine what they were trying to build though. So, I guess yes some things have changed and others haven't. Perhaps our great great great great great great grandparents were randier than we imagined.
