Well Monte you certainly explained it all and I appreciate your comment AND opinion!
I tried, and 'Thank You.'

It's a good thing we don't have to pay for opinions.. At least Per word! Ha!
My bad habit nature, I guess. Sorry.

Even though I haven't had a chance to try the MX5 or M6 yet I still like the Knobs and switches and the Track Lock of the M6.I think a person has better fine tuning for the disc on the M6.
As a rule, I also prefer knobs and toggles, and I do like the Track-Lock, also. However, these are modern times and a lot of the "electronic trend" is towards touchpads, etc. Many people, especially those who are younger and newer o the hobby also like the newer or more modern designs of the MX5 to the M6 and MXT All-Pro controls.

To me a back light isn't that big of a deal. And besides if I'm out after dark where I live the chiggers and mosquitos are too looking for victims!
I DO make use of the backlight, especially when hunting some urban locations (in good neighborhoods) after dark, but especially in most of my favorite places (ghost towns, homesteads, encampment sites and so on) during the hot summer months when I hunt after dark when it is more comfortable. A few places get buggy, but most are no problem.

I also like the Metal case of the M6 and the location of the HeadPhone jack just like your former Classic 3SL which I still have and use.
I, too, like the metal housings White's uses, an I wish every detector had the headphone jack at the rear of the upper rod/arm cup area.

To Me the M6 has just the features that I need and I also like the icons at the bottom of the screen and the confidence bars.
The M6 has been overlooked by many shoppers, often even swayed up-line by some dealers when the M6 is really all the detector they would need.

I wonder on the MX5 if the notch on each side of the nickle was notched out how much effect on the nickle it would have. Would nickles still have a full audio or is there a chance the it could be clipped a little?
First, let me make it clear to readers that I am NOT a fan of Notch Discrimination. I very, very seldom use more rejection than only an iron nail on the surface. At times, often really, I use a Zero Disc. setting and rely on the audio response with the 2-Tone (Iron and Non-Iron tones) of the MX5 and MXT All-Pro.
Second, just as a remainder to some readers not that familiar with Target ID/VDI read-out and the effects of things like ground conditions, target depth, and target masking, .... A coin is most likely to produce a very close to accurate Target ID when it is worked flat-to-the-coil, and within a close proximity to the coil (such as 2"-4"), and if there is no ground or target condition that might influence the reading. If a target is positioned at an odd angle, or if it is too deep, or if the ground mineral conditions are more challenging, or if the desired target is too close to some offending metal object that could mask the anticipated response, then the TID is likely to be inaccurate, and that also means a segmented Discrimination system will have difficulty trying to isolate only one particular target.
Third, however, is that under favorable conditions, the MX5 can do a reasonably good job of notch-accepting a common US 5
