why cant ML build lighter machines?

targets

Member
why are they addicted to heavyweight tectors ? they would sell more if they were lighter and belt mounted .
i would buy a sov but its just too heavy to swing for long periods

You can belt mount them, the Sovereign coils come with a extra coil wire so you can belt or hip mount them. Check out the Sovereign manual.

GIVE ME A BREAK!!! Maybe they can make a nice one out of foam or how about one filled with helium
:nopity:

There is a compromise for quality! Sometimes it's heavier component's and material.....If you want to leave the goodies in the ground go with something lighter.

Do you really believe that?

Actually the issue is not the detector, it's the coils. The control boxes are about average but the coil makes the detector nose heavy. Take a look at some of the coils on a so called lightweight detectors. If you add weight behind your elbow on the sovereign, it will actually feel lighter. Thats why I dont think hip mounting is the answer.

Personally i like my Exp SE. Solid as a rock. Im using the Xcal in the water..... im hear to tell you id never use it where ive used the SE.... it would last about a week. I think a lot has to do with the type of hunting also. You get out on a Fl beach that isnt very trashy you can swing for hours .... now thats heavy no matter what machine you use. If you are used to park style hunting you dont realize how often you get to stop and relax while you dig.

I do and that is why I put on a WOT coil to make it lighter still:rofl:

I use a straight anderson shaft and a swingy thing, the swingy thing takes up all the weight and I can swing for hours and not get a tired arm.
Great invention......John

Isnt this your pic erik, maybe Ive got it wrong, but arent the excal control pods put behind the elbow to help out the heavy weight/balance?
From the way you post you sound like you shouldnt have to mod the excal out its stock configuration.

They are modded like that not because they are 2 heavy but because the STOCK SHAFTS are 2 SHORT 4 me. . Also since I hunt the WOT most of the time the longer straight shaft with the extended controls balances the unit better-It does not make it any LIGHTER I generally hunt deep & the short shaft will not work unless U like to drink salt water
