why can't Minelab create an Excalibur with a small control box

Why such a huge control box on the Excel? I would have bought one but i don't want to lug around the box, and the battery is huge too.It is the best water machine, but some new technology is desperately needed.

My opinion, I agree it would be nice to see something different but I have to say I'm still very happy with my Excaliburs.

For Minelabs...... as long as there selling like Hot cakes I seriously doubt things are going to change anytime soon.

Have you ever handled one? With the right shaft setup it's really not that big, or heavy. Not to mention the fact that you can take it off the shaft and hip or chest mount it. I have two and a CTX and I'll never be without an Excal.

You have 5 knobs to deal with - it would still take a lot of space in some other packaging.
I think if it were focused to be just a water resistant detector it could be simplified as well as customized - but then some users would complain that it isn't waterproof!
The electronics is actually pretty compact considering the embedded pots.

With the amount of electronics inside of that control box it would be extremely difficult to make it any smaller. Until such time as electronic that are used in the Excalibur can be made even smaller they will have to continue using the same housing.

How many hours do you want a battery to supply enough power to operate the machine? It could be made smaller then the number of hours of detecting on a charge would drastically decrease.

I put my Xcal on a straight shaft and at 76 years of age I can still swing it for 6 to 8 hours or until the heat kicks my backside.

Built like a tank so what would one expect... good to 200 ft deep, granted most wont see depths greater that 4ft.. more of a cylinder than a box... they do get lighter when used in water... i also hip mount ,just gotta be careful of cable strain when doing so..

Look at any water machine...... how many are compact with their battery? .
