Why buy a Safari over a Sovereign GT?

I am an old time sovereign user, dating back to my owning one of the first models in 1994. I am trying to understand, especially from a former sovereign devotee, why I might want to consider a Safari over the latest Sovereign GT. Please help me, and don't be afraid to be honest...

The Safari is definitely deeper, definitely faster recovery, has 11 more frequencies, has a digital display (Vs separate display for the Sov) BUT it is definitely heavy !!

Hi cdsmith46,i used to own a quattro which the safari has now replaced and i've also owned a sovereign gt.If i'm brutally honest with you i prefered the quattro....i did not think that much of the sovereign.However,as with all minelabs u have to remember one thing which is they all have a fairly slow recovery speed......in an area of high trash they just don't perform that well and the safari is no exception.

I've had no problem with the Safari recovery speed. Maybe I just swing a little slower than most others????

When in trash push the hi trash button!!!!recovery speed is very good on my safari,I have not used the sovereign but i was told they are very good detectors!!!!!..l
My self i like to think the newer detectors have a little more to offer than the older detectors,and dont fore get the 28 FQ!!! ONE THING fore sure the safari digs deep,and even air test good,a lot of the mine lab line does not.......
