why do you use the minelab x terra 70 ?. when i know you own a tesoro vaquero, which supposely love dearly.my intention is not to put you on the spot, but to understand.i have a vaquero and was thinking why? is the x terra better all round machine or was it i can afford it ,so why not.oringinally i was going to buy either the v or the x. i'm kinda happy with the v,but wondering if i should go and purchase the x also? big decision here no special prices here they cost us $1150.00 you are not allowed to buy half price from kellyco.anyway i just want your thoughts on the matter. blowfly hh:wiggle:

Hey Blowfly that is a good question. When I first started hunting a year ago I bought the X-Terra. I then wanted a VID (I still like that). The reason for buying the Vaquero was easy. I won it in a contest. It did not cost me any out of pocket. I had read a bunch about the V and wanted one, so when I won the contest it was an easy choice.

I still use both. I am still learning the Vaquero. The minelab is my choice right now when I hunt at schools or parks. I like using the Vaquero at old home sites. It makes me dig more targets. I really like having a choice.

As to the V vs the X well 2 very different animals. I do like having both. If I had bought the V first would I have then bought the X? I am not sure on that one. They both are very good machines. I do know the V is deeper right out of the box. I also know I dig more with the V. Either will find good stuff. That is a bunch of money for you to fork over for the X-70. I am not sure I could do it IMHO. Good luck with your choice, Beale.

thank you beale, that explains it,lucky devil! i'm thinking of buying the x terra 50,i have the vaquero,so i don't need the gold searching side of the 70. i'm mainly chasing coins and jewellery at this stage.the vaquero works fine, but at a slower pace. the competition here covers more area ,faster and finds more.dry beach work they can't keep up with me with the v and my sand scoop, but parks and sports grounds, beep and dig,may find it all,but slows you down. that and a sore wrist. however the vaquero's great at night or when raining with a plastic bag over the control box. hooroo see ya blowfly hh

If you could find a US dealer that would ship to you, that might be an option or buy a used one from a dealer or individual.

I know where ya comin from we get ripp'd off somethin shock'n here in OZ :veryangry: but dont be a wally by from the US ...I have 4 Tesoro's all purchased from the states apart from 1 that I brought cheap that was also originaly purchased in the USA ...the lot for little more than the AU price of the V alone .....
I get the feelin your second guessing your V thinking that you might do so much better using an X terra ....prehaps , but I hunt with my mate he swings an xterra 70 has a lot more expierence than me and knows the Xterra 70 well , yet when we hunt together he doesnt do any better than me , sure he can say thats a $1 coin , pulltab , ect before he digs and most times hes right but not always , and I can do the same thing by thumb'n the disc with very good acurracy so I dont see any adavatage the xterra has there in ID'ing a target .....all in all we dig about the same he actually seems to spends more time hoovering over targets try'n to get a good stable TID readout than me quickly thumb'n the disc before digg'n ...also I read alot posts say'n that the xterra is so light and well balanced ...Obviously they havent uses a tesoro  and as for pinpionting the tesoro has it all over the xterra ....grass always looks greener on the other side !

I enjoyed reading your post. I'm an unashamed modern coin hunter. I love the pre-decimals as well, but mostly go after the modern stuff. How does the V fair on sorting out screw caps from our gold coins? I asked the local Tesoro dealer 12 months back, and he said that he couldn't pick them. Can you?
Thanks.
Mick Evans.

I have to chime in here myself, Tesoro's are great detectors and when one has put in the time behind one of their detectors it will begin to click in the gray matter and the rest will be pure enjoyment! I love how the tone gets soft and mellow when I come across a Merc dime or clad quarter. It doesn't bother me to tweak knobs since I have been doing it for years with Ham Radio anyway. Hi Beale, are you making any big finds yet? how about any gold coins? I'm glad you like the Vaquero Beale and now you see what I mean.:clapping:. Ok take care everyone!

Hi Mick , well I dont own the Vaq but with the Tejon set primary disc @ midway between tab & Scap then alt disc set @ Scap ......you can cherry pick $1 & $2 cions .....$ cions will bark on primary disc so will screwcaps but at alt disc $ cions are silent while screwcap's ring loud an clear .....
dont ya just love those $1 & $2's :beers:

Read a few of your posts on the Tesoro Forum,
I bought a Xterra 50 used it a lot, liked the detector,i hunt a few historical sites in OZ,bought the Vaq now this is my main detector.
ID can as you know miss lead you, large piece of iron or silver coin, same thing with the Vaq Disc out a Old Brass 44 bullet case, depends on the condition of the bullet case,
Sounds to me some guys will hang you on a cross for going over to the other side, stick with what your happy with, but i do love the Vaq,

See Ya

That sounds like a pretty neat trick. Just to understand what you are saying. If you set the alt disc @ screwcap range, then it would assume that the screw caps are hitting higher on the disc than the coins. Is that is what is happening? I played around with a quattro about a month back, and noticed that screw caps mostly tended to hit higher than $ coins. This was a bit unusual as they tend to be at the same level or lower on most detectors that I've used. It was confirmed to me though, that you still get the screw caps hitting lower as well. Do you find that on the Tejon, that screw caps are always hitting higher? or am I misunderstanding what is going on here?
Thanks
Mick Evans.

Mick

yes they hit higher on the Tejon's disc of corse you will get a few crushed or oddly placed one's that drop out early an fool ya but not many , this maybe due to the Tejon's ED180 disc as I can't achieve the same results using the Silver with its ED120 as alot of screwcaps drop out pretty well with the $ ..... and yet the same can be done with the compadre that also has ed180  it may or maynot be the case just a thought

Thanks.
I found the Compardre interesting, but without the Alt disc, it would work. I suppose your could check with reverse disc. You just need to mark where the $ coins drop off when you turn the disc up. And here am I thinking that you'd need a pinpoint feature to figure it out. The X-Terras' can you you a clue via the VCO when things are real shallow, and the Ace hangs onto the pinpoint longer than they do on coins. Very interesting thoughts!:nerd:
