Why are so many of the AT Pro detectors showing up for sale in the used classifieds lately?

This machine is a Keeper:)
I'm guessing that that people are not putting in the time to learn the detector. It is a little noisy, and has a lot of options.
I have the AT Pro and I am very happy with it, now that I have learned how to operate it.
I have to admit, in the beginning I was getting very frustrated with all the sounds, and not knowing what mode to hunt in.
I was ready to sell my machine and try something else !!

Then I found out that most guys in my MD club have switched to the AT Pro.
They all like it and we're happy to share the tips and tricks with me.

I watched all the You Tube videos and soon I was hunting and enjoying it.
I am now using the 5x8 coil and love it. Gives great target separation and really easy to pinpoint. Been working the trashy parks with ease :)
In my opinion it is a top choice for all round detecting, land and water all in one. There are many used machines showing up in the classifieds, I'm thinking about buying another :)
When you get it, watch the videos, talk to others, hunt, hunt, hunt... I'm pretty sure your gonna love it too :)

Just wondering why people are selling :)
Keep the Coil to the soil, daily if possible... I do!

DirtDevil some don't give them a fighting chance and get rid of them for a pricier machine that isn't anymore capable than a AT. I couldn't imagine not having one now in my arsenal I wouldn't trade my AT-Gold for the newest brand new state of the art 2500.00 machine cause you will probably never see those pay for their selves in finds. With the AT'S this is well within reach. Just my two cents!! I've owned 1500 dollar machines and realized that I had wasted my money on something that was more confusing than useful and less fun to use. The AT'S made hunting fun again for me.

I had an AT Pro, sold it because I thought I was missing out on the good stuff and bought a used CTX. I didn't buy the CTX with expectations of it paying for itself but having the opportunity to make deeper and older finds; the claims of the CTX did not disappoint me.

Last month an AT Pro came up for sale locally and based on all of the great finds posted on here I had to buy it to reconfirm my previous decision and I will just say that in my harsh Northwest soil, especially along the Columbia River Gorge, there are some areas where the AT Pro does not run smooth and I have a tough time IDing the shallowest of targets and the CTX shines; my Tesoro Outlaw also runs smoother.

I believe the ATP is a solid detector, as confirmed by the members of this forum, but not always the best tool for the job. Just another perspective on why folks may be selling their machines.

I think some people who watched this TV show on metal detecting are realizing
IT AINT WHAT IT'S CRACKED UP TO BE. It takes patience and your NOT going to get rich.

Oh ok.. I see. Yes, even though the AT Pro is a Great machine, there are areas of the country/world that it may not preform the best.
I often think about the minelab machines. I look at the Minelab Ctx 3030 and think, Wow! Cadillac of detectors. Why not get one and try it out :)
If my At Pro ( My Ford Truck ) scores something big, I will probably purchase the Cadillac.
I have been hunting since the 90s, I really enjoy it. Wish my wife felt the same :)
Thanks for the replies.
Find the good stuff, clean out the trash and cover your holes!
Keeping our hobby alive and well for many years to come.
God Bless America.

[my brother can't use a tv remote with calling the cable company

I have one, love it, found my first two gold rings ever with it, last April. As far as why some people don't do well with it, I think that some units just fit in with certain people better than others. Every star pitcher always has some hitter that lights him up, (and usually they're not a strong hitter). I know that it's just a machine and we should all be capable of learning any machine, but I don't think it works out that way in real life. If my finances got to ridiculously well of, would I add to my stable? Almost definitely, but I would still have a Pro. Artie

Well I'm very happy with my machine (AT Pro).

I have used it in:
Salt Water (pacific ocean)
Fresh Water
Black Sands
Rocks
Moss
Mud
Grub
Grass
More Moss
More Rocks

I have never had any GB problems with my machine (very stable). So I have no interest in spending $2400 (Price Increase from ML) to buy "any" Hyped up (so called) Cadillac of metal detectors.

As tarajudy already mentioned, the AT Pro is a no brainer in setting it up and jump right out of the gate with it. The AT Pro "does"pick up smaller items than the $2400 machine can and it' has a faster response time.

So you can stufft that up the old Cadillacs Aaaah, Tail Pipe, those are the words I was looking for, hehe.

:)

Heres a couple of snap shots of the AT Pros abilities:

Picture One - Measured 3' with a good strong reading.

Picture Two - 16" above the Granite/Asphalt road and still picking up that same drain pipe.

So Yes, I'm very happy with the At Pros Abilities. My 1800 ML wouldn't come close to that depth. I sold the ML.

:)

It should have said:

Tax time we always see a lot of used detectors up for sale. Some bought a upgraded machine and now have decided to sell their old detector. Some used their tax and bought an ATP to see if they would like it and decided it wasn't for them and are selling.

I've read that the AT's were the top selling detectors over the last few years. If that's true, it's easy to imagine that some percentage of those buyers didn't have the patience or persistence to succeed, expected to get rich quick, etc. As others have mentioned, local soil conditions and personal preference plays a part, too. Several members here have mentioned that they sold their AT's and bought other detectors, only to find that they missed their AT and re-buying one.
Viva la diff

I wish it had a LARGER read out and back lite..
I did some night hunting last night.. Tot lot.
The only light I had was my Garrett Pinpointer.
Found my 1st gold of the year :)
Hunting at night makes you dig all strong signals, and get the gold!

No machine is perfect KindManTall and those would be nice added features to the machine for sure. I'm blind as a Bat up close, so I let the machine do the talking and I listen. If their is any thing I need to know on the screen which is my secondary confirmation of a target (the sounds from the machine are my first), then I will put my Bat glasses on to see what the screen is displaying.

As said in the Star Wars movie, Let the "Tones" be with you KindManTall (really). hehe

dirtdevil - Those are great finds you have their, thanks for posting them.

:)

I have seen many people come and go from this fantastic hobby over the years but like alot of hobbies there are players and stayers. We all see it every day, a new machine that does this and does that has this whistle and that bell but as far as PURE TECH advancement not much has really changed over a very long period. Yes OK we have ID screens, some with color display some with built in GPS and lithium ion batteries, wireless head sets etc etc but does that stuff really make it any better as far as target depth and stability goes. Guys you can't compare VLF tech with say FBS (Full band spectrum technology) Multiple frequencies, 28 frequencies from 1.5kHz to 100kHz. And lets not get into PI machines please. I personally like to keep things simple and efficient. Time is a huge factor for me so I'm a turn on and go type of guy who researches the night before and pretty much sets up my machine that night. When I get to where I'm going in the morning I turn on the machine and go go go. I'm actually heading in the other direction and have been buying older used machines (VLF of course) simply because they still work really well even by today's standards. Things come and go sure but I will tell you this if someone wants my ATP they are going to have to go to war in order to get it from me LOL.

I agree that too many people with detector " Arsenals" as I call them buy almost every machine as soon as it comes and if they don't like it in the 1st hour sell it. Wish i had enough money to just buy any machine I want on a whim! I also agree that many people buy a machine, sell it, buy another one, sell it etc. thats the only way I can understand That someone would say
