Why are Excal Knobs so hard?

John(Tx)

That is the only thing I don't like about my Excal II 1000. The threshold knob is so hard to turn on and then when turning off I'm afraid of going past the stop, other than that it's a great machine. I leave all the other settings alone, just use the on/off threshold knob. I remember reading a post somewhere where one hunter would leave all the knobs alone and just unplug the battery connector, is this ok to do? Thanks and good hunting to all. John

Or you could do a search in this forum for the replacement knobs people get from Radio Shack. Use the bigger ones they listed the part # for and the bigger diameter dial will make turning the pot much easier.

Well I can't see that removing the battery is a bad thing. I just can't see the settings staying the same each hunt? The renowned
Clive Clynick said when asked how long it takes to tune an Ecal during a 3 hr hunt he said certainly not more than 3hrs.The threshold nob is being adjusted during my hunt each time I change location from beach to beach wet sand water on and on! I do agree that changing to bigger nobs will work, but these pots they use are not subject to too much pressure. I was told that the nobs they use slip prior to going pass the stop that way you won't brake the pot!

I've thought about removing the knobs and the plastic sleeve and putting a light coat of silicone grease on the O rings to make it easier to turn on/off but don't know if it can be done or if it will void the warranty, might just leave things alone until and when I ever have problems with it. HH
