Why an 8' coil cable length?

We all know Tesoro offers coils with 3' and 8' cable lengths. I've been looking for 5x10 ellipticals tonight, and every single one I've found has been in the 8' length. I've also looked in vain for a four-pin 3x18 CSC, in ANY cable length.

I'm baffled as to why anyone would want an 8-foot cable, so I'm assuming I'm missing something really obvious to everyone else...??? Do people detect with six- and seven-foot rods? Do some folks like to wind up a big coil, to make an RFI choke perhaps?

So that with a detector that can detach from the rod (like the Lobo SuperTraq) you can put the detector in a pouch and belt or chest mount it and have enough cable to swing freely.
