Why all the talk about straight shafts?...

I see straight shafts are getting to be all the rage for many different brands, including White's. The point seems to be improved balance, but the MXt is quite well balanced anyway. On mine-with a Bigfoot coil on it, the center of gravity (balance point) is about 1/2 inch above where the curve starts on the S.
I hunt with my 'S' shaft reversed since it brings the coil towrd me about one inch and 'perhaps' lessens the load at the end of the fulcrum arm, but I can't feel the difference. I guess it would take some experimenting with a pull type scale as used in fishing to test the amount of load at the end, but I don't have one. If anyone would like to experiment and get back to us, I think it would be a good thing to have some actual figures.
Maybe this works for the minelabs since weight is a problem and perhaps balance?
