Why all the fuss about nickels.....................

...................how many of your actual nickel VDI' s turn out to be a gold ring??? Anyone have a percentage? Or any experiences to relate....thanks!!

Picked up 19 nickels today. All but one came in at 20, the other was a 18. Haven't picked any gold at 20 yet, but I do dig all 20's. Hardly ever dig a 22 as it's always a pull tab for me.

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,4 have a pulltab VDI reading.............but not one of them reads as a nickel!!! So why the excitement over nickels???

It doesn't have to be a "nickel" reading. It all depends on the amount of gold, such as size, weight, etc. Bottom line dig them all! I've had a gold ring VDI 6 and Larry has had one in the upper 50's, possibly 60's. I know it was one heavy gold band. HH to all, Nancy

I haven't heard of a big fuss over nickels and gold rings, but I know that you find gold rings occasionally under the nickel vdi numbers. I have found a number of rings over the years in the nickel range, but I think I have found more under the pulltab numbers, thats why I dig everything because you just never know. I love following another hunter who does not dig pulltabs..Of course we all know the saying that " if it ain't there you ain't going to find it". JMHO HH Dennis in Idaho

True, true, to find the gold jewelry you have to dig it all......

I don't think the "fuss" relates to gold showing up specifically as nickels. The statement, "If you don't digging nickels, you won't dig gold", relates to the fact that many crank their discrimination up so high that gold items are discriminated out, along with nickels, so the statement holds true.

I say the same about foil and chains.
