why a full plug works so well

I think the full plug works so well for several reasons,---1 is a straight deep cut does less damiage than prying and bending the grass it seems the prying and bending busts the roots or somthing but digging a deep cut and taking it out actually harms the grass less in fact i just dug three new plugs a 3" 4" and a 6.5" and could not even tell where i had dug them . the slit even damages the grass when i pry up it breaks roots and some grass turns brown, so i was amazed I will probly start using full plugs for coins over 5" deep you just have to pack the dirt back in befor placing the plug back and i will pluck a bit of grass to aid in nitrogen releas. humm I guess i did not know it all ?

I've been plugin in our city park for some 15 years and have tried many different ways. The one that leaves the least damage has always been a full big plug.

I agree with the full big part but that is what I do with a flap. I make it big enough with enough of a ball or dirt around the roots so that it has very little impact on the grass when set back in place. I have been returning to some areas over and over again and I rarely see any evidence of previous trips. I think that there is no one correct method but several that work well if used properly.
