Who's your daddy now! ....

Went detecting this evening out near Rice, Virginia. You know, the place where the old skinny horse was. I was swinging near his neighbor's fence; his neighbor has seen me out there many times over the last couple of years detecting. Well, since he was right there, I asked if he would mind if I detected his backyard, since it was adjacent to the pasture I was in. Sure, he says, come on over.

His backyard was relatively small, less than a half acre, so I was hunting it in a grid pattern. After about 15 minutes, I finally got a good bullet signal, turned over this 6" plug, and the bullet was right on the bottom.

I love CW bullets.

About an hour into the hunt, I get this somewhat shallow signal reading 44. I'm thinking to myself "shredded popcan", and almost passed it up. But since it did register 2" deep, and there wasn't a lot happening anyway, I dug it. I cut about a 4" deep plug, and holding it by the grass like a scalp, started shaking the dirt out of it back into the hole, knowing that the target was relatively shallow. Just about all the dirt had fallen off the plug, there was only roots hanging down and the thatch. I saw this rusty looking disk up in there, it was only 1 1/2" deep. I pulled it out and turned it over, and seeing the big block "I", I flinched, and dropped the Confederate infantry button back down in the hole. I dove in after it like a gopher, pulled it out of the hole, opened my hand, and said "Who's your daddy now!" I was pumped. OK, it wasn't big brass, belt buckle or breast plate, but its just one step from it in my book.

Here's my two finds of the day, after 3 hours of detecting. But for a block I, it was worth it.
