Who's using/// What are your thoughts on the WOT coil for the sov G T.......

How do you guys like using the 15 inch WOT on the sov G T.. I bought it primarily for ocean/fresh water beach hunting?? Good choice, or just stick with the factory coil it comes with..

For beach hunting you'll get deeper and enjoy more coverage. Many like the 15x12 SEF coil for the same reasons, which is about the same size. These size coils are also useful to get deeper on land in clean areas. However, I found my 12x10 is deeper on land for me than my 15x12 was when it comes to coin sized targets. In the sand the 15x12 did get deeper than stock for me, but not on land for some reason. Probably due to the mineralization. Many use the WOT water hunting. I found the 15x12 was too much drag for my tastes in the water. Not sure if the WOT is less drag in the water but I suspect it is.

Wot is a good farm feild buster and soccer field, and it goes deep even in disq at low sens. its no gimmick its a high quality coil,

great coil for beach and farm fields.....if soil is mild and relativly clean depth is great.....if site is trashy use smaller coil....in my opinion it will go deeper than the 10 inch coil ... i have already found large cents in fields that the 10 inch definatly missed.... 14 inch deep large cent starts out as a whisper... like has been mentioned it is a great coil for clean open areas.....

thats right 14 " is possible

I have the wot on my gt and it's great... I have only used it on the beach...Even with a slower swing speed I can cover twice as much ground as the 10"..Quarters at a foot sound like a pop can... booming loud....I find dimes at nearly 12" ... The biggest drawback is the holes I give up on cause I dont want to dig any deeper....

I have tried it in the water, but the resistance is substantial....

Get volume limiting headphones cause shallow targets will blow your ears off.....

the wot is a great coil but very heavy! iv found the S12 to be more to my liking and just as deep.15" on a dime is no problem. but both are too big for the water.i like the S8 in the water.

If weight is a concern the 12x10 without it's coil cover (I use spray on bedliner) is lighter than the S-12. Also, a few people who have used both say the 12x10 is not only deeper but more sensative to small targets.

I have used the WOT and have used the S-12, but not the 10X12 Critter keeps bragging about on the Sovereign and I find that too that the S-12 is lot more to my liking as it don't feel as heavy, plenty sensitive to small items and got great depth too. For me and land hunting I found that the S-12 found deeper coins than I did with the 2 different WOT I tried. The 15 inch WOT is a great coil too for some that want a little more coverage and this is where on beach or a large field that it could be good. In water I have talk to people that do water hunt in our club and they too say on a bigger coil it is very hard to swing it in the water, so they been staying with the 8 and 10 inch coils.
Like I say from actual experience my findings are the same as yours Bling, not something from someone that has never used the S-12 or the WOT.

The WOT is an awesome coil for covering ground on the beach or any wide open area that is relatively trash free. The weight is an issue, but the advantage of using one on the Sovereign and Excal is that you can easily make a custom upper shaft to balance everything out.

A bigger coil such as the WOT or 15x12 can get LESS depth in certain mineralized ground conditons. My 15x12 got less depth on land than my 12x10 or 10" Tornado does. However, the 15x12 did get deeper than the 10" Tornado in the sand for me. What I can't figure out is that my fresh water beaches are mineralized just like a lot of my land sites, so why the 15x12 got deeper in the sand but not on land is confusing. I think expanded coverage is more of a reason to consider the WOT or 15x12, as they might very well not get any deeper than an S-12 or a 12x10...in particular if the ground is mineralized. And the S-12 or 12x10 is still a nice improvement in coverage over the stock coil.

Mark if weight isnt a problem for you the WOT is a great coil. If you want something lighter the S12, 12X10 SEF and 10" coils all do very well, get very deep.
If you plan on wading at all, stick with a round coil and the smaller the easier it is to swing it in the water for lengths of time.

I have a WOT on my GT for beach hunting, but I have to run the sensitivity lower than when I have the 10 inch Tornado on to keep it stable. The balance with the WOT is fine since I have a Plugger straight shaft and the control box is high up, but it's also harder to control the WOT.

Thinking an S 12 coil may be a better bet ( I do like the Sunray products) . At some point, the laws of diminishing returns kicks in and a bigger coil isn't necessary better depth or sensitivity wise...coverage wise it will always be just due to the fact it's bigger.

Neil's right about that...I found the 15x12 to be too much drag in the water for my tastes. I haven't tried my 12x10 in the water yet. I would suspect that the S-12 isn't really any more drag than the stock 10" coil in the water since I've never heard anybody complain about that. For me the stock 10" coil is my water coil. I keep it on my water rig (shaft) at all times so that in order to go water hunting I only need throw the control box in the chest bag. The 12x10 is my land coil unless I'm using the S-5.

Here's a blurb from Ralph at Sunray on smaller coils versus bigger coils in bad ground...

Ralph Sun Ray said:
Will,

I assume that the stock coil you are referring to is an 8" Coinsearch as the original Sovereign only came with that size coil. Our S-8 (8") or S-5 (5.5") should handle the ground as well as coils of the same or smaller size as they will "see" similar or less ground (S-5). As for the S-12 (12.5") it being a larger coil it will "see" more ground so if the conditions are severe as you describe, you may have to run your sensitivity somewhat lower in order to run a stable detector (or) if in auto sensitivity, the detector may revert to a lower semsitivity to compensate for the ground. If that is the case, the depth advantage may be somewhat less with the larger coil than it would be in milder conditions. However, the ground coverage of the larger coil would still provide an advantage in that respect. How much depth loss would depend on the ground conditions and the amount that the sensitivity might have to be lowered vs the smaller coil. I hope this helps.

If you still want a wot pm me I have one that I will sell...... I have run into financial dfficulties and must sell my Gt and wot coil......
